Gold Sinks

There need to be more gold sinks added in Cata. At the moment the only real gold sink is the Alchemy mount at around 32k. Once you have that there is just nothing left to spend gold on. I have all the BoE's epics i need. Gear is enchanted with best enchants. I don't do alts. I have 310% flying and maxed professions. All the available BoE companions and mounts. 2 old legendary's which cost a lot to craft. I'm generous with donations to my guild bank and helping out long term friends and yet i have all this gold with nothing to spend it on.

In Wrath 3.02 we had:

Tundra Mammoth 16-20k
Sons Of Hodir Mammoth 8-10k
Chopper 13-15k
Ring Of Kirin Tor 7-8k (i think it was)

So it was more expensive to get all the gold sinks in Wrath than in Cata despite gold being acquired at around double the rate as before.

Personally i would like to see the Engineering flying mount be made BoE (afterall they changed the old engineering companions from BoP to BoE). Also the Tailoring flying carpets. I'm sure both those professions would rather have something they can sell than something they can't. What i would really like to see is all TCG vanity items such as the mounts and pets be made available to buy with in game gold seeing as TCG is obsolete now. A pet for 10k? Np. A mount for 30k? Yes please!

I think this is it really, the amount of gold to spend on just one character is rather limited, but with some alts you can spend a lot more.

Tbh, i don't like much gold sinks. Seems that you need them to demonstrate you're a better player, and in this way people feels forced to farm more and more gold.

Back on topic, i think that in WotLK the gold sinks were put too early in game (all together at launch); probably blizzard plans to release 1 or more of them every major patch.

with no vendor faction or guild bonus reductions

on that note, make EVERY SINGLE ingame mount available for that 999k
massively reduce the amount of gold on each server k go

The guys who made it lost the license and there will be a new card game added in the future i believe.

Regardless, my point was that i would like to see those items sold for in-game gold. Maybe reskinned to not upset people who already have them or to avoid legal issues.

OP - you mention a lot of BoE stuff and list the wrath chopper as a 13-15k goldsink.

Goldsinks are things that siphons gold OUT of the economy. The chopper was only sometimes a goldsink at all. If you were insanely lucky with "mining" bosses in ulduar you could get one "for free". No vendor mats needed.

Bying BoE worlddrops from other players will only shuffle gold around within the economy, but will do nothing to slow the inflation of the total amount of gold in circulation (apart from a tiny tiny AH cut of the sales price, but if you buy it through trade chat there isn't even that.)

Now a GOOD goldsink is something that gives a tiny advantage but isn't really needed. Take for instance the different levels of flying skill these days. lvl 60 flying is more or less necessary, there are a lot of places you can't go and quests you can't really do without it. The 70 "epic" flying (280%) isn't needed for questing and just getting everywhere, but if you have a gathering profession it pretty much becomes a necessity, it's a gold sink, but it's close to being mandatory. The new turbo-epic flightspeed, previously only available from choice drops and achievements is, in this context, a close to perfect goldsink. it's a costly upgrade with small benefits. it's not really such a huge difference that you can't really compete without it, but it's a nice thing to have if you can afford it. And ALL the gold is payed to a vendor. It's gone from the economy. Wich is what a real goldsink is meant to do.

I'm not sure about the TCG Models and Pets - if they did bring them into the game for gold, It should be a large amount of gold (50k+ Mounts), (30k Pets). Or an extremely rare drop chance that links to a chain, I would like to see that

As I said before, the key to a good goldsink is to make something useful (or cool) enough that a lot of people will want to buy it, but not so useful (or cool) enough to be mandatory. You want to get the people with gold to spare to buy it, but you don't want to force the people who don't have enough gold to feel forced to buy (or bot or whatever) gold to get it.

I agree, a few more gold sinks would be nice. I do do alts and they just increase your gold income after a certain point aswell .

A few more mounts / pets / bank slots etc etc would be welcome.

Id rather blizzard moderators keep working on issues with the game that are more important to gameplay than to monitor everyone for possible gold buying. Yes, it is a bad problem, but every game that has an economy has them, and there always will be them no matter what you do.

And jacking up the price for mounts will kill the AH mind you, because most people making money play the AH game to optimize gold income.

they're not very good ones but most of the guild leveling stuff.
most armor items are 2-3k and other random stuff is from between 200-300 to 1-2k

Overall, I would bet that reforging is a huge gold sink. Every time I get new gear it costs me 200g to re-balance my hit and expertise caps and roll the remaining stats into something useful for the class.

Sure, sometime you can get away with changing only one or two pieces, but often it's most slots.
