Did he screw with you and replace your files with images?

[E] I mean shortcuts, not files.

Thats what I tought, but no, when I try to open, lets say, Wow, it just opens the standard windows picture program & tells me the file cannot be shown.

Looks like it, unless he changed all the extension names.

Go to your options and enable file type extension to be shown. Manually replace the file extensions to the appropriate extensions (WOW.exe etc.)

Have you tried actually going to the WoW folder and opening the exe file there, instead of trying shortcuts? I imagine so, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

You're also in luck because it seems like most of your icons are .exe programs so you just have to manually change each file type.

Open command prompt in admin mode and:

    sfc /scannow
That is not dead which can eternal lie, and with strange Aeons even Death may die.

Alternatively you could just right click on each of those programs and create a shortcut on desktop and then delete the old ones. And dont let your brother use your computer again lol.

My earlier post Incorrect icon shown for a file type in Vista (March 31, 2008) tells you how to refresh the shell icons in Vista. In case the solution posted in that link does not help, you may want to clear the icon cache database. The icon cache can be cleared by deleting the hidden file named IconCache.db in the following location:

Note: %userprofile% represents the path to user profile folder.
    Rebuilding the Icon Cache Database

    1. Close all folder windows that are currently open.
    2. Launch Task Manager using the CTRL+SHIFT+ESC key sequence, or by running taskmgr.exe.
    3. In the Process tab, right-click on the Explorer.exe process and select End Process.
    4. Click the End process button when asked for confirmation.
    5. From the File menu of Task Manager, select New Task (Run…)
    6. Type CMD.EXE, and click OK
    7. In the Command Prompt window, type the commands one by one and press ENTER after each command:

    CD /d %userprofile%\AppData\Local
    DEL IconCache.db /a
    EXIT

    8. In Task Manager, click File, select New Task (Run…)
    9. Type EXPLORER.EXE, and click OK.

Try this, Had a similar issue a while back and seems to solve it.

What happens if you create a new shortcut from your WoW exe file? Might be easier to recreate shortcuts than going through and fixing all the extensions.
