Will the community still count raids by “tiers” in BFA?

With the removal of tier sets, will we still be calling raids by an increasing tier number?

EN, ToV, NH were all considered T19 because only NH had tier sets which distinguished it.

In BFA, that won’t happen though. So will anything be considered T22 in BFA if they space out raids strangely again as they did at start of Legion?

i would assume we just call it by its raid or something

Tiers had meaning back when we were in the low single digit numbers... it lost this soon after when everyone and their granny's dog had tier pieces..

I think we're still going to count T22, T23 etc for simplicity's sake!

Raid Tiers will still always be referred to as Tiers. Tier Sets are literally just sets from a Tier and had Zero contribution to the fact they are called Raid Tiers. Which instead comes from the Ilvl of said Raid.

I.e. Raid Tier 10 was Ilvl 251-284 thus Items that fell into that category were part of that Tier.

I think you have it all backwards...
it is not the item set that gave the raid a the word tier and the numerical value; it's the other way around.

We will just go by item-level brackets or major patch release numbers this time around. No biggie.

We should just usw the system like they do in PVP.

    Legion Season 1
    Legion Season 2
    and so on...

The first Raids in BFA will be BFA Tier 1... BFA Tier 2...

I love how many argued against me a year ago when I claimed that EN and NH were both part of tier 19, when today it seems to be widely accepted, even included in wowprogress.

Yes I believe that we will continue to count raid tiers as that's the easiest way to refer back to specific raid periods. And whilst we won't have tier sets we will still have armour sets for each one, even if those are non-class specific.

    Yes because its Raid Tier.

There will still be Tier Gear as well just no set bonus.

To be honest by the time we got past Tier 10 I completely lost track of what number we're up to. I couldn't tell you which raid was tier 15, tier 18 etc without counting it up in my head from 10 (ICC) onwards

I guess it will be by patch?

Raids that are added with 8.0 are the first tier, even if they open them later than launch. Only EN was available at launch, but both ToV and NH were added in 7.0. Only HM was available at launch, but BRF was added in 6.0.

Raids that are added with a main patch, say 8.1/8.2/8.3/8.4 are the following tiers. ToS was added with 7.2, and Antorus with 7.3. HFC was added with 7.3.

the name „Tier“ will survive, if we have

    - either 2 raids with same itemlevel dropping
    - or smaller and bigger gaps in drop itemlevel between raids

number 1 is relative unlikely. so it solely depends on:

    raid1 drop ilvl 1000
    raid2 drop ilvl 1015
    raid3 drop ilvl 1050

in this case we would talk about tier 22 for raid1 and raid2. and talk about tier 23 for raid 3.

    but if we get this:

    raid1 drop ilvl 1000
    raid2 drop ilvl 1025
    raid3 drop ilvl 1050

then it will not take much time and ppl solely talk about raid1, raid2 or raid3 (by name).

    tl;dr:

if we can summarize raids by something, „tier“ will survive. but if we get 1 raid per tier only and itemlevel increases always by the same steps, from raid to raid, not much ppl will use the term „tier“ at the end of BfA.

Isn't the most important question if the community will still raid at all in BfA?

are you sure about this ? if so, what is the declaring factor to consider some pieces „tier pieces“ ? do they add stuff like set bonus to single items ? and do you have a source for this ?

this only makes sense in a world where you have to summarize some raids into 1 group, to differ it from another group or raid. see my examples above. if we dont have that, it makes no sense.

They are called "TIER SETS" because they are a SET that is obtained within a TIER. It's isn't a hard concept to understand. Well..not for most.

It's why Dungeons have "Dungeon sets". Having Sets in a Tier is irrelevant to it being a Tier.

Do people not know English or know what a Tier is?

we are getting an stats/ilevel squish with bfa, current legendaries where ilevel 335 for example at the blizzcon beta. i would guess 400 would be the first raid tier

Actually ToV was added in 7.1, while NH (which released later) was in from 7.0

I don't call them by tier and haven't done so since the end of Wrath. T10 seemed a good place to stop.

I've no idea what number we're at now.
