First monkey clones created in Chinese laboratory. Ethical concerns justified or not?

Two monkeys have been cloned using the technique that produced Dolly the sheep.

Identical long-tailed macaques Zhong Zhong and Hua Hua were born several weeks ago at a laboratory in China.

Scientists say populations of monkeys that are genetically identical will be useful for research into human diseases.

But critics say the work raises ethical concerns by bringing the world closer to human cloning.

So, China isn't held back by "ethical concerns" and will be progressing further and further the coming decades.

    Poll question:
Do you think we should research cloning monkeys and perhaps eventually even humans?

I very much am for the Cloning of Monkeys in the pursuit of Medical advancement of Humans.

Imagine being able to clone a Fresh or Cancer-Free pair of Lungs for someone that exactly matched their own DNA.

I agree completely. No more donors needed and your body wont reject it's own cells.

But you would have to kill the clone though right? Like in that movie with Ewan McGregor?

I was more assuming you cloned the Organ, not the whole person to harvest it from.

Directed by michael bay, so it's about explosions and stuff!

China fakes a lot of scientific discoveries but we'll see.

Taking a movie by Michael Bay serious? Shame on you.
9 out of 10 people agree that in a room full of 10 people one person will always disagree with the other 9.

Given the advancements that are being made, it seems entirely feesable that a cloned organ could be grown without cloning a full human.

Lol? Dude, the research was published in The Cell, one of the most prestigious scientific journals there is. It would be almost impossible to push a fake study through their referee practice. Basically, some of the world's foremost experts in the field have examined their research, found it to be trustworthy and of excellent quality, and recommended the paper for publication.

It's a shitty movie, with a pretty unlikely scenario, but I was being pretty tongue in cheek with that post.

It's indeed no less relevant to the discussion than any other dystopian clone film. And with more explosions as a bonus.

Not only that, but there was a doctor who was working on doing head/brain transplants. Could you imagine having your own cloned young body waiting for your brain to just be "put into". Unless your brain would die on its own, i don't know much about this. But you could theoretically keep going on and on.

I think Brains aging and deteriorating is a large part of dying of Old age.

The idea is to get to the point that you can grow an organ by itself.

Darn, well if they could somehow figure out a way to move your "conciousness". But that sounds impossible to me. I did read something about there might be a possibility with computers but it sounded far fetched.

You could engineer brain dead clones.

Once you master the process you could easily clone nothing but organs in the vet, eliminating the need to harvest your clone for organs. It would probably be more cost-effective, too.
