Question Do you think a "Battle for Suramar" Warfront would have been a good idea?

During the Fourth War, the Battle for Stromgarde and the Battle for Darkshore, there were rumors that a Barrens Warfront (likely involving the tauren) or Quel'Thalas one (likely involving the blood, high and void elves, possibly a final confrontation between all three Windrunner sisters at Silvermoon) were next, as two Warfronts seemed somehow incomplete in the storyline.

As it stands today, we have literally no idea on the state of Kalimdor, for example, the exact political status of Ashenvale, Feralas, Mount Hyjal, Moonglade, etc. (the night elves are not allowing the Horde into their lands - but what constitutes their lands exactly after the Fourth War, we still have no clarification).

This could provide an interesting scenario - as it would feature an updated Broken Isles, and show the political status of the different areas there - AND explore the very complicated relationship between the night elves and their nightborne cousins, which was mostly avoided in the game. We forget that both Suramar and Highmountain are extremely close to both Kul Tiras AND Zandalar, both occupying critical strategic positions, and Azshara must have taken the Tidestone from the Tomb there during the war anyway.

    On the Alliance side:

The night elves, led by Tyrande Whisperwind and Malfurion Stormrage after their victory at Darkshore, lead the kaldorei forces from Kalimdor and take their navy to the Broken Isles, angered that Thalyssra and the nightborne refused to leave the Horde, and still supported Sylvanas during the conflict after the Burning of Teldrassil. Now I honestly have no idea whether Azsuna and Val'sharah have joined the night elves or not, but there seem to be some hints in-game that they have taken sides at least marginally (for example, the night elves of Val'sharah have seemingly established close trade links with Bradensbrook in one Alliance-only quest).
    http://amiyuy.com/wow/wp-content/upl...80p_amiyuy.jpg

The night elves, their military predominantly led by Maiev and Jarod, two other natives of Suramar City familiar with their ancient territory, lay siege to Suramar, seeking to "reclaim" the ancient settlement for their people. They try to surround and blockade Suramar on both sides, Maiev sending forces from the Isle of the Watchers (and possibly Nar'thalas) in Azsuna, and Jarod sending forces from the Black Rook Hold and Bradensbrook in Val'sharah. I'm not sure about the Moon Guard Stronghold, or whether Farodin will make any appearance, but both would be very interesting.

The second Siege of Suramar begins - Tyrande this time leading the siege once again, but staunchly opposing Thalyssra, rather than fighting alongside her, calling upon Elune's wrath as she faces Thalyssra and other nightborne leaders in open battle.

    On the Horde side:

Thalyssra immediately calls for backup after she realizes Tyrande has returned to Suramar to attack her people. Due to Oculeth's advanced telemancy network, the nightborne are able to transport most of Highmountain's military to Suramar very quickly, and Mayla herself intervenes on their behalf at the front of their army. Silgryn and Victoire lead the Duskwatch in defense of their ancient city, possibly facing off against Jarod, former Captain of Suramar's Guard, and someone whom they might remember from their pre-Sundering days, and his sister Maiev and her Wardens - a very interesting scenario, with the Wardens fiercely fighting the spell-fencers. Valtrois tries to bolster their magical defenses by drawing from the regional ley-lines, and she and Thalyssra activates their nightborne constructs and unleash their captured animals, to fight the night elves and their nightsabers, hippogryphs and ancients.

As the Kul Tirans come to assist the night elves from neighboring Boralas, Oculeth and the other nightborne magi manage to bring in some of the Zandalari forces to even the odds against the invaders.

So in the end, the Battle for Suramar would = the night elves and the Kul Tirans for the Alliance VS. the nightborne, Highmountain tauren, and the Zandalari trolls for the Horde.

Ideally, I think the nightborne would actually WIN this warfront - it is only fair to the Horde, as the Alliance won both Stromgarde and Darkshore - but very narrowly. Perhaps in desperation, as Tyrande and the night elves begin to break through Suramar's defenses, the nightborne would try to construct a mana bomb against the kaldorei invaders, or perhaps use their temporal powers to somehow eliminate Tyrande's military - and Tyrande manages to barely stop them, but is too weary and depleted afterwards, falling unconscious to the ground after she saves her people, causing the night elves and Kul Tirans to finally retreat after a long and very intense battle with massive losses on both sides.

In the aftermath, the mutual cooperation between Suramar and Highmountain and even the Zandalari is greatly strengthened, with all three races contributing to strengthening the city's protection against future Alliance invaders. While the frustrated night elves realize that Suramar is off-limits to them, and perhaps instead refocus on settling Azsuna and Val'sharah with Kul Tiran assistance, leading to a new if very uneasy status quo in the Broken Isles.
"You see, there is balance in all things. Wisdom etched in our very fur: Black and white. Darkness and light. When the last emperor hid our land from the rest of the world, he also preserved...our ancient enemy, the mantid. So it is with your Alliance and your Horde. They are not strong despite one another; they are strong BECAUSE of one another. You mistake your greatest strength for weakness. Do you see this?"

You want more night elf losses? They've had a pretty bad track record as punching bags and we literally just got off one of their most significant retribution moments being taken from them.

Warfronts were really bad content. No need to make more.

I would have preferred a Barrens warfront if the idea is to have one that the Horde can win unquestionably. The game is severely lacking in both Tauren and Dwarf themed armor, and that would be a fitting collection of sets that could be gained from it.
It would also give a really distinct theme insofar as having it be in an area we don't often see, which in turn would give us actual content in the Barrens proper.
The world revamp dream will never die!

WFs was a COMPLETELY wasted chance. they had a great platform and already invested some good effort in it. the basic idea of warfronts is not bad. they could have got SO MUCH out of it. but instead they suffered at 80-90% and created that boring, „easy as fuck“ grind shit, that noone liked. its such a wasted potential…

that said: under actual (BfA) design i 100% agree. every second invested in that crap would be to much. but if warfronts had been done right, it could have been a great thing. the problem here is the word „if“…

Now that sounds really dumb, the night elves weren't interested in Suramar. The only things they are interested in is on Kalimdor.

Lore-wise sieging a city as uneventful (at the time) as Suramar would've been a bad move, considering Alliance's main army was stretched so thin they couldn't even support the night elves in Darkshore. I don't know what was up at Arathi, but Dazar'Alor was an essential target as it would've provided Horde a navy to rival Kul Tiras.

Otherwise, we had just spent a lot of time in Suramar, so going back there for another skirmish so soon would've felt tiresome, especially considering Warfronts were about building bases and gathering resources; where in Suramar would've that fit? The two we got were based in old-as-shit zones that consisted mostly of plains and woodland. In other words, ripe for a Warfronty revamp.
Now you see it. Now you don't.

    But was where Dalaran?

If I were on the front lines, Tyrande wouldn't have to be the leader. But some human or Anduin. By the way, give more depth to the idae that the Alliance fights only for humans and not for their races.

    I imagine something like.
Anduin: You can't accuse us of not helping us start a war to give you a new Home.
Tyrande: If we wanted to live in suramar we would not have insulted its inhabitants.
Anduin: But they are supposed to get along with it.
Tyrande: That I dislike someone does not mean that I wish their suffering or that they venerate me.

Tyrande in any case would have to be the leader of a war front in Ogrimar or Thunder Bluff. Where she can be accused of "passing by" to be "Corrupt with revenge." In summing up she would be just being absurd.

Warfronts as content was not the most well though out content. Trying to create a moba/dota style of content in game was interesting. The two difficulties were not that different. The reward was junk gear, which was okay for alts. Battle for arathi was seemingly pointing toward it becoming a pvp game mode. But Darkshore was not made in a way that could be converted to PvP.

If they had invested more time into a better reward structure, more than just the okay gear and cosmetics. Had they implemented PvP, which any new PvP content is welcomed, would have added some replay value and not made it feel like a waste. They blew it with Darkshore and then they never touched it again.

They still have a lot of opportunities for PvP scenarios or battlefronts. You have the old abandoned Azshara (zone) battleground which is Orc v Night elf. Dwarf v Tauren in the barrens. Dragonmaw v Twilight Hammer in the highlands. Forsaken v Worgen in Silverpine. And so on.

The biggest hurdle is the rewards. Theres really no need for additional ways to get gear. And cosmetics only go so far.

As far as one based on Suramar i don't see how that would be useful to the Night Elves. They don't have much interest in leaving Hyjal/kalimdor. They don't have interest in the broken isles. The also don't have a navy, and their priestess is in the afterlife chasing Sylvanas.

    obviously not

how suramar mattered in this war/war effort? broken isles is too far away of any meaningful conflict that consist on being in zandalar and kul'tiras, with some tidbits around the main continents

it was completely pointless, it served no purposed on the war neither was a line of resources as they barely help in anything, unless you wanted to fight for some shit wine.

My idea during bfa, which some liked, was for us to have a pvp warfront in stranglethorn vale, maybe an update of the whole region as well

  12. #12
I rather they steer clear from any "Warfront"-type content as it was an absurd waste of resources for mind numbing content. Horrid feature, even worse when they doubled down with the "Heroic" version. BFA was a solid expansion, but its expansion-specific features in Warfronts and Island Expeditions were both very, very bad.

    Let them be forgotten fast.

Nah realy see no reason why this would be a good idea.

1: wf are just realy bad content
2: likely the reason for this thread is to see how many people dislike the nightborne going horde ( beating a dead horse)
3: more elves vs elves.. I dont think that is what we nees right now.

I actually liked warfronts, they weren't difficult, but if WoW's history made one thing clear, it's that difficult content and random groups are a recipe for disaster, so they were fine as they were.

That being said, the Night elves had their shot at it (With the NE-themed armour sets and all) in Darkshore, i'd have picked another location and involved other races that haven't been featured in WFs yet...

the concept of Warfronts was a good one, there just needed to be more of them with a shorter turnaround and more varied enemies. Imagine instead of having 2 warfronts you had 6; additional ones in Tanaris, Barrens, Stranglethorn and Western Plaguelands. In addition to enemy faction patrols you also get zone enemies attacking your base as well; if they'd done that, made it a 3.5 day control 3.5 day attack cycle and you queue for a random one instead of specific then I think it might've been slightly more enjoyable... maybe

No and I am also happy that the Silvermoon Warfront never happened.
Warfronts have been horrible, because they have belonged to the whole faction war nonsense which ruins WoW for me.

Yea, that would just be the same shit with different colors\backgrounds. The feature itself was at fault. Had it been a BG\PVP-oriented, it might have been something, but having it be PvE was a huge blunder as it was just a snoozefest with no variation whatsoever. Same mobs, same paths, same objectives, same duration. Horrible.

The Night Elves & Tyrande have much to rebuild after the loss of Teldrassil. If Tyrande "chose" Renewal over Vengeance towards Sylvanas as we've seen, she'd almost certainly choose renewal over vengeance towards the Nightborne. All such a warfront would do is serve to once again make the Night Elves the punching bag of the Warcraft universe.

There are better Warfront options if they were to be brought back (though they'd need a ton of design/gameplay changes if so). The Barrens, Quel'thalas/Silvermoon, Westfall, & Gilneas would IMO be more interesting & have higher stakes than Suramar 2.

I mean you can say that raids and m+ (to an extent) are the exact same thing though; same mobs, same paths, same objectives, same duration. also if you actually read what I proposed there would've been a variety - imagine you're say doing one in Stranglethorn and all of a sudden a pack of tigers attack, or trolls from Zul'gurub; so it wouldn't have been exactly the same each time.

I hope they find a way to repurpose the warfront tech like they did with scenarios, bot warfronts themselves are a bit meh.
