I see the men at Blizzard are also that of culture. I too am very fond of Cassidy Cole.

I love it. If McCree is "problematic" this sounds legitimately fucking racist
Wrath baby and proud of it
Who are the outraged people at this point anyway?

Maybe next time they’ll not allow devs names to be incorporated into their games. It’s like all the stupid ass statues of egotistical people all throughout America. How about we don’t idolize and glorify people unless they’re an absolutely polished specimen, which is almost never.
Most likely the wisest Enhancement Shaman.
Do you have any evidence that the cosby suite was actually used in any way inappropriately during his association with the cosby suite?
Do you know whether he did or did not look into complaints he has received?
Do you know the suite's purpose to him? Does the name matter for that room's purpose?
Did anyone else stop the toxic "frat boy" culture that he and his friends developed? They should all have been fired and erased from the company's records, men and women employees alike that knew about this culture ensuing and not doing anything about it, right?
Can you refute Greg Street's comment on the group chat photo? https://twitter.com/Ghostcrawler/sta...11905886531585
You're great at retrospectively preaching about what people should've done without any information, insight nor evidence. I am also sure you're a highly moral person that upholds the highest of values at all times. Good for you.

So after the name change goes live, will we be summarily disciplined for harassment/problematic behavior if we accidentally deadname the character?
Thanks for the ad-hominem; it supports your inability to support your argument.
I will agree that you shouldn't idolize and glorify people, because no one is perfect. However, you can erect statues, monuments, etc. with the likeness of people associated with historical events in order to remember and preserve history. Whether one worships said statues/monuments as idols is a completely separate matter, and it varies from person to person. Remembering history, warts and all, is way better than hiding it or scrubbing it clean... otherwise, there's less of a chance people will learn from it and be doomed to repeat it.
This is why, regardless of the context with the game, I tend towards not changing references. The reality that McCree being named McCree is not offensive at all, people just choose to associate it with the developer from whence it came and his actions. If it was a real-life recreating of the developer down to his problematic behavior, you might have a case, but names are reused and not unique. If the name was actually offensive language, I could see potentially changing it. However, the way all these changes are going down is just insanely superficial, and it's more akin to the devs making idols out of themselves when it comes to making changes nowadays. I suppose it's nothing new, it's just being executing in a different way.
Anyways, I would've preferred Colton over Cole. I suppose they're technically similar in meaning, but I'm waiting for someone to complain about the meaning or potential interpretation of the name due to their etymological roots. I'm certain there's someone out there crazy enough to say that the name is basically black-face via innuendo.

“It's not an endlessly expanding list of rights — the 'right' to education, the 'right' to health care, the 'right' to food and housing. That's not freedom, that's dependency. Those aren't rights, those are the rations of slavery — hay and a barn for human cattle.”

Didn't see it as defending some dude at blizzard, just don't think changing a characters name is productive way of bring change. But it must work, all blizzard past wrongs are fix now. I am sure if you look over the character of Cassidy they pulled the name from there be stuff to sjw over, the dude was made in 1904, a good year known for how well they treated women right? But you want to defend misogyny I guess.. grats?
Yes, all you are doing is defending the reference to a rapey harasser. And why, exactly?
Cole and or Cassidy, whoever Blizzard means to reference there, are long dead. This person in question is not, and their action are still having effects on people.

You didn't make a valid defense for why the name should be kept at all.
"Theres less of a chance people will learn from it ..." doesn't even make sense. Do you think people will suddenly stop remembering what this dude did because they took his video game reference away?
Sorry, this post isn't a good one and you should rethink it.
A lot of people did though. There's a whole WoWhead list from 2014 https://www.wowhead.com/news/blizzar...-in-wow-226830
One of the first things they even post is that these in game references are not something put in by the devs themselves, but rather other devs putting the references in as a joke. So Jeff Kaplan could have put in all the stuff about Alex Afrasiabi and we wouldn't know who did what. You can't just state something like that without knowing the truth behind it first.
