They are plasma esentialy. Good luck trying to make that make sense to you, willing to bet you have never interacted with plasma. Its a good read if your into random bits of lore

Theoretically speaking, they're actually plasma in an electrostatic shield. The electrostatic shield is the part that interacts.

true, in which case you can think of being similar experience to pushing 2 magnets together. Or just looks at the equations for classical electrice field, and see that you wouldnt be able to cross them if they are arranged in a fasion i think they are (that is, a very strong E field). I would explain more, but my LOL game just popped

Some years ago, an engineer made a website about lightsabers, and had many informations about all the physics models possibles, and pros & cons of each. The website is not available now, so i rar-ed what i downloaded then and put it in MU for those of you who might want to see. It depends on the power source (nasty burn or a clean slice) versus the protective armor. Typically in the movies, though, Jedi's don't wear negative-magnetism armor - but they could if they wanted to.
