New to computer customizing please advise! experts encouraged!

So I literally bought the follow to replace a dead mother board in my main system:

    Intel Core i7-2600k 3.4ghz

Vertex 3 60gb Sata III (to eventually put windows 7 64 bit pro on it)

Patriot 8 gb Viper Xtrm Div 2 1600 mhz 2x4gb

    and a z68a-gd55 b3 intel z68 mother board LGA1155

I am going to be using my old gtx 285 nvidia til guild wars 2 is closer to release date where I'll upgrade the card. My old power supply(620w) and case naturally. I spent around $950(including $100 them putting it together for me, but I have to install the OS myself)

Thoughts, comments, criticism welcomed as I am not sure if I made the best calls on this.

In my opinion, I would have gone with a larger SSD. At least 120GB these days.

2600k is obviously a great CPU to work with, Z68 boards are nice, 8 gigs of 1600 ram is decent...

If its for your OS, then thats fine. I got a 64gb M4 for my laptop (I barely turn off and on my main rig anyways) and it suits me fine. You have a fine build there. You could have saved yourself some money and did it yourself though. Its very simple.

You can see improved load times as well as a bit of in-game performance improvement if you have space to toss your favorite game or two on the SSD. I'm not sure why some people here and there still try to argue that it won't affect your gaming performance. The benchmarks and performance numbers have been proven again and again at this point.

considering I am not rich by any means, and not feeling confident in putting together a system worth over $1000 total parts... I feel the $100 loss to professionals who, if they fuck up, will replace the parts to be a wiser investment. Though I ultimately agree with you, wish I had the know-how myself to save $100.

Thank you for the info as well! anything else I should do about my system generally speaking?

Actually its only about 605$ worth of current parts including a 15$ rebate on that specific ram you picked out.
my guess even with the reused parts current value it wouldn't even top 800$. Keep in mind I'm not including the os as it's not a piece of hardware and unlikely that anyone would destroy that during a build (short of flinging it at the wall after breaking the other stuff).

I don't know where you get $605, My end total was $743 for all the parts listed, +$100 to put it together and another $140 for 64 bit windows 7.. a $140 price difference ($605 vs $743) has me wondering where you got your prices at?

I came out with $580 (not including shipping/tax where most stores that I looked at had free shipping and no tax) but that doesn't include Windows 7, which can be found for around $100 (OEM copy) or even cheaper if you are in school or work in tech. Overall, the system is pretty decent. I would of gotten a bigger SSD, 2500k $200, around $180 if you have a local Microcenter) and G.Skill Ripjaws ($30).

again, sources? I can maybe get some of the money back from them if the difference in price is really that vast on same parts.

    Motherboard: http://www.nothingbutsoftware.com/ca...164898&ai=1550 ($155)

    CPU: http://www.amazon.com/Intel-i7-2600-.../dp/B004EBUXSU ($280)

    SSD: http://www.amazon.com/OCZ-Technology.../dp/B00566FETA ($100)

    RAM: http://www.amazon.com/Patriot-Divisi.../dp/B004GUT344 ($50)

    Windows 7: http://www.supermediastore.com/produ...%20SF-001-0038 ($90)

And if you could get your money back, that's even better, as you should buy what I said previously (2500k and the Ripjaws X).

    Btw, all legit sources.
