Thief Series?

After being bored as I was browsing through wikipedia, I stumbled on the Thief game series article and all off a sudden wanted to play again that old game.

I have quite few questions though

1. Will such an old game still run on modern pcs with modern graphics cards (I got gtx 570), if not can it be tweaked or something to play them. I plan to play through entire series.

2. Since there were some really good addons apparently and quite few releases, can any one reccommend (I know to play thief 1,2,3) but each has some addons. So I was thinking to play Thief 1 - then addon, thief 2 - addon, thief 3 - addon. Basically I am after some good story experience and game play experience?

You mean Garrett, the Master Thief? Oh hell yea i love that game. 2 has the better graphics though compared to 1. 3 has a completely new engine and is nothing like 1 or 2. There's even a 4th in production. The fan missions are what i play. Too bad there aren't enough people making them to keep up with me, hehe. I have to play it on my XP sys since it don't wanna work on my vista sys.

I think the only way to know for sure is to loading the games and find out. In the fall I installed Heroes Of Might and Magic 3 & Freespace 1/2 and it worked fine. I then installed KOTOR 1 and it kept crashing on me even though it was a newer game compared to Heroes/Freespace.

You can also do a partition of your drive and if you have copies of Windows 95/98 kicking around you can try loading the game on to there.

yeah Garrett! I saw thief gold is now 10 bucks (http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/thief_gold ) and I use to play it so I might get it. I've done a bit of digging around and found this:
