That fabric softener teddy bear...oooh I'm 'a hunt that little bitch down.
I don't think Arpaio even has the legal authority to be doing this, its out of his jurisdiction. Its a waste of tax payer money and a waste of internet.
Lots of things that have zero supporting evidence would be nutty if they were true. For some reason, this is one that people give and extensive shit about, despite the complete lack of supporting evidence. I can't seem to come up with anything that would make this speculation so rampant with this President, but not any other. I can't imagine. Nope, nothing at all...
TO BE FAIR! I think that Arpaio is a complete nutjob, and to be quite frank, I would not care if Obama was from mars if he were a good president.
But, to your third part, where you say he "Banned smoking, coffee, movies, pornographic magazines, and unrestricted TV in all jails" what exactly is wrong with that? I think all jails should ban all of those things. It is not a luxury vacation to look at porn and enjoy a cig and a movie..it is a jail, because you did bad things.
IN other news, Obama is clearly the best canidate not named Ron Paul, and no way does he get the nomination, so yaaaay four more years! I will personally write in Ron Paul and his vice president Jesse Ventura.
Ron Paul is the only clear choice. Freedom and Liberty, what American can be against that?

Me? Of course not. But being white, middle-class and male, I'm not in the demographic that is most likely to end up in prison.
You have to compare the benefits of being in prison to the benefits of not being in prison. Unemployed, dirt poor, possibly no home, questionable utilities service, dangerous neighborhoods. You're basically saying: "Hey you can live better and all you have to do is break the law!" When I lived in a poorer area I knew several people who committed crimes for no other reason that when they weren't in jail, they were living on the streets.

Sounds more like a problem with how we treat the poor rather than how we treat prisoners. You have to compare the benefits of being in prison to the benefits of not being in prison. For my part I prefer a justice system that lowers crime rates rather than one that pleases the revenge centers in my brain.
You have to make a point for it to be missed, you haven't yet.
Good for you. That doesn't change the fact that prison is not someplace even the poor should WANT to go, if people don't WANT to go to prison because prison offers them a better standard of living, they're not committing crimes to get there. That is reducing crime.Sounds more like a problem with how we treat the poor rather than how we treat prisoners.

Now treating the poor better is a great goal and all, but we can't simply give them everything.

You really think that will off set the recidivism effect that harsh prisons create? Fact is treating prisoners like shit just makes everything worse. Its less safe for the gaurds, its less safe for prisoners, it turns minor offenders into major offenders and creates a culture of crime.Good for you. If giving them porn reduces prison rape rates and letting them watch tv prevents them from forming gangs and stabbing a guard then great.
Not to mention you really aught to provide some numbers on poor people going to prison for comfort.
Who's talking about treating prisoners harshly? I'm talking about denying them TV, cigarettes and porn, not asking for them to be whipped.
So, if we're not fixing people, and we're not punishing them, why are we wasting so much money locking them up?If giving them porn reduces prison rape rates and letting them watch tv prevents them from forming gangs and stabbing a guard then great.
I clearly stated "I saw" it was obviously anecdotal. It happens, and I have no idea how often it happens, and I can't really be bothered right now to go look it up.Not to mention you really aught to provide some numbers on poor people going to prison for comfort.

When it happens, it's an actual news story. When he says he knew several people that did it, he's lying. That's why I stopped replying - when someone's willing to make blatantly racist arguments and lie about their own experiences, in order to justify their masochistic fantasies of "justice", there's not much point in conversation.

I do not consider having no porn and no ciggaretes to be a "Harsh" prison, but I guess Wells and I do not agree on that. Prisons should be prisons. It is not about revenge, it is about being punished. You think having porn and tv makes inmates less likely to commit another crime?
