problems with upgrading to service pack 2 (vista, 64bit)

Hello there fellow Mmoc dwellers.

I have been having a problem launching battlefield 3 today (I only just downloaded it) and it was completely mystifying me until I realised that it requires vista service pack 2, which I don't have. I downloaded the standalone installer for service pack 2 and went to try and install it but it came up with an error when it was preparing. The error reads:

Instillation was not successful

No such interface supported

Error: E_NOINTERFACE(0x80004002)

so far I have tried doing command things and checking the dll's or something and I have tried in safe mode and I really don't know what to do, does anyone have any coherent suggestions? I'm a bit of a computer program noob so if your answering please don't assume much =o, also I don't have the money to upgrade to windows 7.

Have you tried running as administrator(if even possible) else try this.

read through most of that thread already and tried the administrator, none of it seems to work *sigh*, Thanks for the replies anyway though! I'll continue reading through to see if I can find a solution that works for me.
