I never understood this. For me water has taste :\

Water tastes like water, which is why we can say that something "tastes like water".

But it's essentially tasteless.

When you work out as much as I do, and especially now that the weather is great and you can work out outside, you learn to appreciate water a lot

That's not entirely true. If you drink lots of water and little pop and other sweetened drinks water may actually have different "notes". For instance, nothing beats fresh tap water, but even that varies greatly in different locations. Tap water in Japan for instance smelled and tasted very strongly like chloride even though it's supposed to be one of the cleanest in the world, but only I was able to tell, none of the other tenants (from the US & Australia) could. Bottled water always has a kind of stale taste to it, you can just tell it's been stagnant for a while. Water is never just water, even distilled water may aquire some of the taste of the plastic from the bottle it's kept in. But maybe it's just a matter of how used you are to the taste of "your" water.

Edit: Oops. OT: Water or cold milk tea if I want something sweet.

Coke has to be so cold there is ice forming in it. Malibu needs to be extremely cold (just out of the freezer), Throw in some ice cubes, lemons (or limes) in a Tall Glass.

When it is hot outside, the best thing to drink if you don't care about taste is ice water. If you do like a taste, then something like gatorade. With gatorade, if it tastes good, then your body needed the electrolites in it. If it tastes a little salty, then you don't need it and water would be better for you.

My favourite would be a 0.5L bottle that is filled to 4/5th's with water, which is frozen. Then you pour some not ice cold water into it and it turns ice cold instantly.
The most effective liquid to drink against heat is most probably lukewarm water, since the body dosen't use as much energy to heat it up to native temperature.
