Starcraft 2 On Sale - Worth it?

Starcraft 2 is on sale until the 13th for $40. I've never really gotten into RTS games - I played a bit of the WC3 campaign and I enjoyed it, but I never really got into it, let alone play multiplayer. I've loved Blizzard's other games so far, but I've really never been certain about this genre. Is SC2 worth buying if I've never really got into these kind of games (I'm not opposed to them, for that matter)? From what I've read, it seems like a good gateway into the genre.

    Thank you!

The campaign is decent but alone is not worth the 40$ but if you're planning to play multiplayer (even casually) I'd say it is worth it.

why dont you buy it on some other site?
you can get it for like 30 bugs

I bought sc2 even i dont like RTS games , sc2 is REALY REALY fun just for the campain and fun maps with friends its worth it !

then mini games? love it !
    fun maps? epic

i dont play normal matches , but still did pass some time on the other things

edit: custom games are realy the thing that can make you have fun even if you dont like the genre ^^ and if you have friends that play it you can pass a good time with it and ge fast into it

Custom games and campaigns are where 90% of my time playing the game has been spent...I've always liked RTS for the single player stuff myself, especially since the playstyle of mulitplayer RTS has never been my cup of tea...and I suck at doing 10,000 things at once. I would say give it a shot, there is plenty to do without every really needing to play a real multiplayer match if you don't want to.

yeah buy it, its a game worth owning

  7. #7
Yes, this game is worth that money (even without discount it's worth it!)

Custom Games makes Blizzard's RTS games stand out above the rest, hands down, no questions asked.

The actual game play created by Blizzard and their campaign? You debate that with yourselves, I'll stick to my countless hours of custom games.

I mean I've never understood questions like, is the game worth buying, anyway. We can only tell you if we like it, not if you'll also like it.

Great single player campaign that is worth it alone for me. Its a great game to learn RTS with its many difficulty settings. Theres also lots of custom game types to play which are tons of fun.

SC2 is definitely a game I would recommend. I thought the campaign was a lot of fun and has decent re-playability thanks to the variable difficulties and the order you unlock missions having a pretty drastic impact on strategy in a lot of cases. On top of the campaign you can play custom games against friends or the computer, or try the countless quality fan created mods.

And of course, there is always multiplayer/ladder. I found it a little daunting at first because I had never played anything but single player in the original SC or the Brood War expansion, and because I was terrible at it, but it turned out to be a lot of fun. I would probably look into a free trial like Nindoriel suggested a few posts up, but either way I think its worth the money and I really hope you enjoy it if you do decide to give it a try.

I got it for £20 from Asda during new years sale btw, couldnt recommend it more
Btw you can play Starter Edition if you havent already, or if you didnt know about that. Check it out, lets you play a couple campaign missions and quick matches online multiplayer to try it out

It's absolutely worth it, the campaign is great, like all blizzard games, even if you just want to pick the game up, play the campaign and enjoy the story it's well worth it.

But the ammount of things you get WITH the game are basically endless, multiplayer 1vs1 - 4vs4 with endless depth, you can play at a low level and derp around a bit, and still have fun, or you can really get into it, devote huge ammounts of time into it and you will NEVER get bored because it's "too easy" no matter what level you play at, there is always someone better, and strategies are always evolving, truly challenging and fun if you like competetive games (or like i said, just fun if you stay at low leagues and just want to have some fun)

But besides all that, there's a TON of fanmade content that basically never runs dry, everything from tower defence games to hero sieges to game modes you would never even think about, grab a friend and try random custom made maps and you got fun for the whole night easily.

    Great campaign.
Multiplayer that will always be challenging and fun. (hell the original starcraft is STILL going strong)
A TON of fanmade content, constantly being added to.
Monstrous ammount of stuff around the game that's very entertaining, such as tournaments, people who cast high level games in an entertaining way and web shows that focus on strategy and improving as a gamer.

Starcraft is a great hobby. =)

http://blip.tv/day9tv/ <--- The mighty thought hammer, his show focuses on "being a better gamer" He hosts everything from high end strategy discussions to just fun games of people derping around, and he does it all in a very compelling and entertaining way, as a new player he has plenty of shows going over the basics of the game and how to improve.

There are other people aswell such as HuskyStarcraft, HDstarcraft, Psystarcraft and Totalbiscuit (just to name a few) that all cast games, a simple search on Youtube will find these fine people for you. (I deliberately listed these 4 as they provide alot of content, but with widely different personalities and ways of casting games, Husky and HD are very much your "everyday guy" and are nice and pleasant and all that, where as Psy is... well for a lack of a better word a huge douche, now i love watching him, but he's not for everyone so it's only fair i give a good warning =)
And finally there's Totalbiscuit (he has 2 channels now, his main one has old SC content, but no longer updates, and his new channel is where he puts all his current SC stuff) This man is... a bit in between, he's very nice and polite when casting games and has a high intensity going wich i like, but when he plays himself, and he does something stupid he can rage quite a bit.

But that's enough rambling out of me, to answer your question, YES, it's absolutely worth your money to buy this game.

If I had known what I do now about the game I would've never paid $60. I don't think it's worth $20 considering in order to do ANYTHING other than the story you have to be online. The entire reason I bought this game was to kill time whenever better games weren't available. Such a poor decision on my part. I give the story the same rating as Diablo III's: 4/10. It's so cliched and predictable.

The storytelling department for Blizzard has really taken a turn for the worse and it's prevalent in all their games.
Honestly ever since WoW was introduced they seem to use the exact same formula for games: Good character gets corrupted. We kill the big evil. The end. It's like reading a Goosebumps book.

They're asking your opinion. They're trying to see what people say about it and if they should buy it. I think it's a good way to judge to see what people say.

Replies like these are so silly, enjoyment of the story portion of a game is highly individual, you didn't like it for example, i loved it, just like i love metal, chocolate ice cream and weird porn, doesent mean i expect everyone to share those likes, and the "always online" thing that people complain about... it's 2012, only times you may be without internet is when you travel or soldiers that go over seas, and i feel bad for the soldiers... but really that's the least of their worries, and you can survive being without internet for a few hours while on a train or airplane.

    too long didn't read?

Story is individual, some like it, some dont, dont judge it before you try it yourself.
Always online thing is a non issue in this day and age.

The campaign is not worth it at all but you don't buy a RTS game for the campaign. Multiplayer is simply amazing and well worth the 40 dollars. I paid 60 and have absolutely no regrets.

It's not a horrible game but I can't say it was worth the 60$ I spent on it, maybe if it had all races campaigns I'd say it's worth it but since it didn't I'd be hard pressed to say it worth the 60$. At the 40$ price break it's in the realm of what I'd honestly say the game might be worth buying but since you have little to know interest in the RTS genre it's difficult to say it's worth it for you to buy the game.
