We just had a war with England (we clarified things after the American Revolution). We kind of did anything and everything to separate ourselves from England.

English has destroyed most words from most languages. We're the most bastardized language out there.

Isn't it referred to as American English now? With all the funny spelling mistakes that are now standard.

I prefer adopted and then slightly mangled. It all comes from being an empire where most of the population weren't taught to read and write at the time after all.

It's called American English by people outside of America.

We make fun of British people for speaking a funny sounding (written) English.
