Not sure actually, as the other heirlooms worked from 80 - 81.

The 1-80 gear didn't work for 80-81 either so don't see why the 1-85 gear would work for 85-86

Could of sworn there was a big deal with the fact it did work from 80 - 81.

Edit: Heirlooms definately worked before at 80 - 81... but in Beta for MoP someone tried for heirlooms 85-86 and they did not work!

Above level 80 (IE 81+) though. What actually happened was at level 80 they still worked until dinging 81. It was a well known thing that happened, and can even check out via google the posts that confirm it worked. If I remember, someone who was streaming was asked why he still had heirlooms on, and it was explained too that 80 - 81 it worked.

it was a bug. it doesn't work anymore.

So far the only confirmed cases I've been able to find were on the Cata beta
