Wine. Beer is nasty. I mean personally, to me. I gag if I try to drink beer. Even the smell is enough to make me come close to vomiting.

But wine? Hell yeah! Cab is the best.

    Beer when watching the game.
Wine while having a nice dinner.
Scotch (neat you savage!) after dinner or when by yourself.
Rudimentary creatures of blood and flesh. You touch my mind, fumbling in ignorance, incapable of understanding.
You exist because we allow it, and you will end because we demand it.

I can't think of a single instance when one wouldn't be a solid replacement for the other. Ok maybe you can't replace a hot wine with a beer on a cold day, but that's about it...I you might be able to actually.

Wine, liquor, or cider. Never beer. /shudder
'Twas a cutlass swipe or an ounce of lead
Or a yawing hole in a battered head
And the scuppers clogged with rotting red
And there they lay I damn me eyes
    All lookouts clapped on Paradise
All souls bound just contrarywise, yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

Beer doesn't make you fat unless you are drinking tons of it.

You wouldn't generally pair beer with a cheese tray. Or with seafood. Or with dessert.

I'm sure you will get a ton of people saying that beer goes with all of that, but IN GENERAL, the flavors of beer and wine are best paired with different things.

It depends entirely on what I'm eating.

Burgers/fries, fried foods, pizza = Beer

Pasta, steak, chicken, fish = Wine

    Just my personal preference.

    Beer :
    Tastes better
    Is more "manly"

    Wine :
Has no carbonation for easy chugging
Generally has higher alcohol volume than beer

I like beer more, but wine definitely has it's place for getting drunk fast

SOME wine tastes better than SOME beer though. I tried some fancy wine at Olive Garden and omg........ but the shit I get at the store for $5 a bottle isn't good like that

But you know a 6 pack of miller lite for like $5 though, it is good

I think overall if you had all the money in the world and could get the fancy wines that actually taste great, wine would be the winner, otherwise beer wins

Eh hem, Miller Lite maybe? It's the most watered down smooth & drinkable beer I know of

    Beer, any day.

Simply because "beer" is such a ludicrously broad term. Most people can't even start to comprehend the spectrum of different tastes that can be found in beverages that are counted as beer. Most people will think of a poorly hopped pale lager when they think of beer, but hey, that's their loss.

In wine you're reduced to figuring out (after choosing red of white, obviously) the cultivated notes between grapes and whether the grapes grow on the south or north facing hills, in beer you can take your taste buds on a rollercoaster ranging from said shitty pale lagers to strong and meaty ales dark as the night, while side stepping to bitter pale ales, to complex and spicy art of Belgian monasteries, to fruity wheat beers and to ancient and traditional beers like Sahti, seasoned with smoke and juniper.

Yes, GENERALLY, because people are incapable of thinking beer for the full spectrum is offers. You will find a beer suitable for ANY occasion. ANY. Hell, you can even replace your whole dessert with something like Nogne Sweet Horizon.

A buddy of mine did a beer and cheese tasting. It's not that unusual, I've seen a few articles discussing pairings.

I don't drink any, I can't, but if I could, I think I'd prefer beer? Not sure, my grandpa used to drink a lot of wine and it smelled pretty funny.

Whilst I agree beer does not go well with the other things, bear goes great with wine, we eat that all the time. Lots of people do in fact.

you beer snobs are just as bad as the wine snobs

life is too short, drink both

that being said, i prefer beer because it's less hit or miss

I stay away from both, prefer to drink water and Pepsi Max. I am very helpful to this thread I know.

The catch is there are so many different breeds of wine AND beer that it's really not hard to pair either one with anything. There is a beer to go with all of those things.

There is a lot more to beer than just Bush, Miller, and Coors. Lots of people don't know that. Not saying you don't, though, just pointing out that many don't and the pairing becomes, "hmm should I have MGD with my burger or Bud Select?"
Get a grip man! It's CHEESE!

Who gives a flying hoot about manly drinks?

Anyway I like beer. I type this as I am drinking a Boston Larger with my steak sandwich; however, I would prefer a nice Riesling.

Miller lite is shit beer. Beer that is less than 10-12 dollars a 6 pack is shit beer generally, unless you find that gem. Like wine. Anyone can find a good tasting wine for 50 dollars, but the trick is to find that $10 wine that is just as good.
