Upgrade weapon before getting more malevolent pieces?

So im not going to hit 2,2k anytime soon, if ever, and im wondering if it would be more damage increase to upgrade the weapon before getting shiny purples in every slot?

Or will the pvp power gained from rest of the gear out weight the damage of the weapon?

Im a hunter, by the way.

Weapon should always be first upgrade, right now you get almost 4400 pvp power from the weapon alone. I dont even know if all the gear combined gives you that kind of upgrade. Since i never did pvp for conquest before it sucks getting 7250 points before buying your weapon, but I can usually buy the weapon and then 2 pieces of gear or more.
