Not just because it's easier, but because they think it's better.

Well, since they are not "designed" to be pets, when you do keep them as pets you need to fucking care for them because having them as pets makes a lot of their instincts grow away and since they most likely will be confined to a small aerie when they are pet it is not the same thing.

Well, yes, they are. Regardless, yeah, you have to care for them, but the people who are not going to care for their pets and abuse them are the same people who have 5 kids and abuse them all and keep them malnourished and in pain. It's an inevitability, and all for all, animals are better off being pets, even with the risk of them being placed in horrible homes.
