When exactly does it ask for a license? I just did it two minutes ago and it went fine for me, just waiting for the mail.
I found reports saying the same and that it works if you try a few times and change the date of purchase around a bit.
Just got my mail with the code in it, done from Windows 8 even.

Right after I put in all my info, vendor info, etc. The very first time I did this (back in Dec or Jan) it didn't ask for one. The next time I did it, it did. I've honestly tried like 30 different times with different info, and either get denied, or asked for a Win7 code, of which Upgrades, MSDN, Student Upgrades dont work with.
I seriously would buy like 4 of these if I could get the dang thing to work. I still have 1 left unused.
