Not rly...pirates pretty much destroy any need for Origin for example. If you have original game but you dont want too have origin on computer you can just download crack. Exeption are games that are played over internet multiplayer tho.

Even if this goes out ppl will find a way araund it. As always.
    Don't sweat the details!!!

Game developers have already been looking into ways to take from the used video game business. EA started with one use codes to access online play a few years ago. I worked at a store that bought and sold used video games. At least 75% of the games we bought were obviously stolen (as we couldn't techinically prove it we had to buy them. It sucked giving those thieves $100 or so $'s for a stack of games).

Game companies make absolutely nothing off of used games. And stores that sell games don't make much from selling new games. The store I worked for (F.Y.E) paid around $55 for a new xbox or ps3 game from the supplier, then we sold it for $59. Not much profit. But if you buy that same game from somebody that walks in off the street for $24, turn around and sell it for $55....profit.

I typically buy new, I know it goes to the company that made the game, that is where I want my money going.

Sony's already fucked themselves greatly in a plethora of ways.

Adding this would seal their coffin and they'd probably go the way of Sega: Stop making consoles and only make games.

Granted with Wii U having full third party support and the Steam Console coming into play, this further seals Sony's coffin (and for sure marks the death of Microsoft's consoles too)
Still wondering why I play this game.
I'm a Rogue and I also made a spreadsheet for the Order Hall that is updated for BfA.

This will only effect poor people who buy 2nd hand games.

Not as bad as M$ charging $60 a year to unlock the internet parts of the games that comes free on the disc tho.

    Patient ≠ Practical Application

When you patient something you need to have a real intention to use it, which I think of a lot of people are missing in this thread, due to their lack of Patient Laws, but that said, a company can apply for the patient, build development models and test the systems, decide it fails and still hold the patient.

No company would ever demand such a stupid thing. My company operates an online account system, if you forget your password you just reset it, we don't ask you to build a new account and then buy all the services again and start from square one. No company would ever do such a stupid thing ...

This is a problem with the business models of these companies, not the consumer.

If you operate a store these days, you're a bit of a fool. The rent, taxes, and other fees such as wages that come with owning a business are so extreme in the western world it isn't profitable for most companies.

If all people go their games from online stores or downloads, the companies could (although they probably wouldn't) cut down on costs, or put the money into more development. The issue lies with the way in which we're latching onto the past here.

We live in a digital era where the internet and our connection to it is always a button click away. Sure, having a physical copy of a product is always nice but companies really need to do more to get people buying online!

I haven't played a current console game in ages but seeing stuff like this makes me weep for the future.

As a 90's kid who grew up with the NES, SNES and Genesis, this sort of thing makes me wish for the simpler days of walking into a local mom and pop videogame store, buying everything for $50, going to a friends house, putting the disc in and playing without any hassle.

Just because they have it patented doesn't mean they intend to use it. Having this would prevent Nintendo/Microsoft from going the same route.

All Microsoft have to do now is not implement this feature and they pretty much have the next gen console war won already. Ridiculous change by Sony.

I wouldnt buy a console that had this unless there were some fucking awesome amazing omfg i want to fuck the disc games on it. I havent seen any of them since like ff10 so i doubt il be giving them my cash.

I honestly hope they will do it. And I hope it will be 100 times more dire DRM than it's currently planned. Losing all customers would be a great remedy for the modern DRM-mania. Ironically, game usually has less playability the more DRM it has built in, and more and more people are turning to independent developers for quality games.

Also game (well, not each game) is a piece of art. How much of old art would we have now, if each book would be made for 1 read only or if each painting was made for 1 life only? Would we play chess now, if it had some abstract license which wouldn't allow the use of chess after maker dies?

This won't affect Sony at all. Buying used games is the same as downloading the game illegally, not a cent of profit from used games goes to the developer, so either way, Sony won't be losing money.

And people say BLIZZARD is greedy sheesh, give me a break! 0$ goes to the developers when you buy a used game 100% of the money you give to Gamestop, or wherever, goes straight back to Gamestop. Can't you see how this is a problem for the game industry as a whole, including its consumers?

Dislike this anti "second hand system", now i can't be able to burrow friends game to test them and then see if I wanna buy them, most of my friends do that with their PS3's (I don't have consoles), everyone of them bought the same wrestling game just because a friend of mine told them about it and let them have it for a while, now they're playing it online 24/7.

    Coming up 2017
DRM Books! Harry Potter DLC Book - The hobbit revisited HD DLC Season Pass (you'll get to read 2 more pages about how bilbo comes back home).

If your console breaks you need to buy a new console AND a new game cause of the old CD ID will not work on your new console. If nintendo and Microsoft do not do this, this will hurt sony badly.
Sorry. I can't trade my game. Its soulbound.

They are losing money in that people won't support their product if better, cheaper alternatives are available.

Why would I get a PS3 when I am forced to buy all their games for "new" price when I can get an x box 360 and get all my games half off?

(Neverwinter) - Trickster Rogue & Guardian Fighter -

By the way i've been hearing of anti-piracy methods since I was a kiddo, pirates are always one step ahead, lawyers have been trying to mess up with copyright here in my country, their laws have been stupid and a fucking mess, everyone complained and everything went back to point 0 (our lawyers are dumb enough to don't know how internet works, well appart from one that was looking at porn at the congress while the cameras were videotaping him from above on his "duty")

And how are people supporting them by buying used games that the developers get ZERO profit from.

I've seen people mention in the past that it will mean devs have to be less competitive with prices, but I doubt it'll play out that way. PC games have been like this for ages and PC games have amazing sales and deals all the time.
it isn't just the renting games and buying/selling used, it is also the your system broke because of faulty manufacturing that they may or may not honor to replace/fix and you are out all the games you legally own.

that is the kind of stuff that drives people to illegitimate goods.

If this actually happens I will NOT be buying a PS4. My PS3 is already collecting dust because I play everything on PC anyways so this kind of shit would be the nail in the coffin for me to say goodbye to consoles forever.
