On topic, I believe that losing this election is ultimately the best thing for the Republican Party. To lose an election when the unemployment rate was above for 8% for almost the incumbent's entire first term is nothing short of embarassing. This allows the GOP to do some real soul searching and I think that the best step forward for them is introduce national legislation to legalize gay marriage. Obama and the Democrats aren't going to do it because they know that gay people are firmly in their camp, largely because of all the stupid things state Republican officials blurt that go straight to the Internet. After this, steps should be taken to legalize marijuana among other things.

In short: The GOP needs to be the party about liberty, freedom and rights, not the party of catchy bumper stickers. Taking initiative on these issues will certainly steal some wind from the Democrats' sail.

Maybe for some people. Fairly certain it's not mine. I might just seem that way because I tend to go into a debate fully equipped with the necessary facts, allowing me to point out that an argument is based on ignorance of the facts.

You've done that. You've probably done it several times today.
I encourage you to point out where that happened. Today would be nice.

Don't be content with just dismissing people as irrational idiots.
It depends on the people in question. Swazi is not known to actually respond to reason or counterarguments.

Rifles are infinitely more useful for home defense (though not out-of-house defense) than handguns. Handguns alone aren't going to keep the government in check. Also, while the Second Amendment wasn't made for hunting, the fact of the matter is that the AR-15 and other semi-automatic rifles are generally considered to be the best hunting rifles available. In fact, the AR-15 is the most popular rifle on the market for hunting.

The burden of trying to justify taking away our freedom and ban stuff rests solely on the those who wish to take away said freedom. That's like me saying we should gas the Jews and then demanding you tell me why we shouldn't.

No thanks, unlike you I am not interested in discussing Rush Limbaugh because it's not relevant to the topic at hand.

Yeah, as soon as someone addresses Rush in an non-ad hominem way, THEN he's irrelevant.

That's not who they would attack, though. They would attack civilians that support the government.

This, as soon as the Republican Party gets back on track with being more moderate, I may start voting for them again.

Rush Limbaugh has had many gems over the years, but to give a people an idea of how far his depravity goes, Rush claimed that Hurricane Isaac hitting where it did was a conspiracy planned out by Obama to make the Republican convention a disaster area because Obama was afraid of Mitt Romney. But you know, Obama himself can control the weather... because holding the Republican convention in southern Florida during peak hurricane season is obviously a smart thing to do.

The militia. That has been the usual response I've seen.
