Out of the two games, I'd probably prefer Torchlight 2, but that wasn't multiplayer by default.
It's probably because I felt more OP in TL2, and I regularly like the gameplay style where I can sit back and slaughter everything easily.

It depends how well you like the ARPG genre, I find it quite good though.
It's free, so it won't hurt to try it out and see.
