My family was very cold growing up. We really did not do a lot of showing of affection until the past decade or so when we started to go through some rough times. I wish that we had started sooner because I usually feel awkward hugging others. I think that it is a perfectly natural showing of affection and friendship.

May sound odd, but I feel more secure hugging other guys because I know that it is 100% friendly. Bit more awkward with women because there is usually some attraction unless we are talking my mom or sisters.
