First build, want to know how good it looks before I buy

    http://pcpartpicker.com/p/z8WR

+ this case: http://www.microcenter.com/product/3..._Computer_Case which I couldn't find on PCPartPicker.
Ignoring the prices listed here (I'm picking it all up at Microcenter for a decent amount cheaper than listed on there), does this look like a good build for gaming?
I decided to go AMD instead of intel so that I could upgrade my graphics card with the money that would have gone to an i5 3570K. I don't plan on overclocking immediately, but I'd like to possibly be able to do so in the future. Other than an aftermarket cooler which I'm not buying now, am I set up to be able to do that? Any other critique would be appreciated.

I think you've chosen a decent budget build actually.

I'd advise you to get a cheaper 660 OC however. Gigabyte and MSI's options will save you $30 and if you overclock it yourself it should be able to match the performance of the EVGA card you've chosen.

I'd also invest this money in a better PSU, such as the XFX 550W which after rebates is only ~$15 more expensive than the Cooler Master extreme PSU

I've gotten that case for one of my friends builds and it isn't that great. Very flimsy and light. Also ran into a problem where all I had to do is tap the front and it would turn on. Spent an hour and a half trying to figure out why. I never did lol.

Thermaltake isn't that great of a brand in my opinion. With the money you save on the GPU you should put that towards a better case.

Here's the deal, Intel still may be better for you in the form of an i3-3220.

    1. Are you planning on streaming, video rendering, photo rendering or any other professional task that can take advantage of multiple threads? Get the 6300.

    2. Are you strictly only going to game/browse/watch videos? The i3-3220 would be better.
    i7-4770k - GTX 780 Ti - 16GB DDR3 Ripjaws - (2) HyperX 120s / Vertex 3 120
    ASRock Extreme3 - Sennheiser Momentums - Xonar DG - EVGA Supernova 650G - Corsair H80i

The AMD 6300 isn't all that much weaker in the gaming department and overall its a better product than the i3 3220 even though the AMD chip is $10 more expensive.

Personally, i'd stick with the AMD chip.

You can get the i3-3225 with a MB for $40 off at Microcenter.

Just keep that in mind. I would go with a Z77 board at that point, then you can get a different intel chip down the line, keeping an upgrade path open.

After an overclock the 6300 is actually better than a 3225. (Of course OCing differs per chip etc, but i think 4-4.5 GHz should be ok to get).

    http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...review-17.html

So id say stick with the 6300, slap a decent cooler on it (either now or later) and OC it.
You might also wanna look into getting atleast 1600 MHz RAM, i think those shouldnt be that much more expensive.

Thanks everyone for your input! I've gone back and forth on AMD vs Intel for this build, and I've decided I'm going to stick with AMD and see how well it runs. I'm more than liked going to OC that 6300 in the future.

However what would you guys recommend for a <$50 case? I just picked that one because it was inexpensive and had OK reviews...

Edit: I actually had this RAM picked out http://www.microcenter.com/product/3...Memory_Modules and put the wrong one in the PCPartPicker build.

I would take a look at the corsair 200r. But the case you linked should be fine

That's actually pretty expensive at Microcenter compared to the other places it has listed on there, and I'm trying to get everything from Microcenter. Does anyone have experience with this case? The reviews looks pretty good. http://www.microcenter.com/product/3..._Computer_Case

The HAF 912 is $45 (after $10 rebate), the Bitfenix Outlaw at $49.99 or the Bitfenix Merc Alpha at $39.99 are a few cases you could also take a peek at. All at Microcenter.
