[Frost] Sick of healing my elemental!

    Greeting Mage community!

My main is a Brewmaster, but as of a couple of weeks ago I finally got my Mage to 90, and started gearing him up. (Last friday I was 470 ilvl and now am 485 hooray!)

I am, however, getting a little frustrated with my elemental. It does not happen frequently, but when it does, it is a complete facepalm on my part. When I lose target on a hostile and am still happily oblivious to it, I sit throwing frostbolt after frostbolt into my little watery friend healing him continually until I notice a few frostbolts later and just get mad.

Is there anything I can do to make sure this doesn't happen? For example, anything I can use to macro cast Frostbolt so that if I do not have a target it wont cast on my Water Elemental?

Absolutely frustrating. Especially on some mobs\encounters on which you need to wait for them to 'activate' or be attackable... more often then not, first frostbolt goes to the elemental... sucks a lot.

It is however an alt, so i don't spend much time on him, but when i do... i get frustrated.

Could the solution be as simple as /cast [harm] Frostbolt?

That does work. Assuming you have #showtooltip as the first line of the macro the icon even changes to the question mark when you have your elemental targetted.

Have you tried turning off auto self cast in the interface menu?

    #showtooltip Frostbolt
    /targetenemy [noharm]
    /cast [harm] Frostbolt

Is what I use, stops the stupid auto target pet and will auto target an enemy to cast it on if you lose your target.

This is exactly what I want, oh my lord, thank you. I shall sing the praises of Penetier to the next generation so that they may sing them to the next and the next! Hazaahs all around and all that.

This is really an issue? Do you not have target nameplates?

    #showtooltip Frostbolt
    /targetenemy [noharm
    /cast [harm] Frostbolt
    /stopmacro [target=pettarget, exists]
    /petattack

Will do what you ask and at the same time, make your water ele start attacking as soon as you stack attack, as well as switch to your current target.

It can be modified like this to include pet's healing if needed:

    #showtooltip Frostbolt
    /targetenemy [help]
    /cast [mod:alt,@pet][nomod,harm] Frostbolt
    /petattack

    With this, we have :
    • targeting nearer enemy if the actual target is friendly
    • casting healing bolt to pet with Alt key, cast FB if not
    • force pet to attack
