Chances are it's just lootship, with more ships, not actually driving the ship but right click a cannon to fire and fending off enemies with your spells.

I don't care if its DotA or not as long as they're FINALLY doing something with Azshara crater.
Using the place as a hub for pre-5.3 battleground style fighting between the Horde and Alliance before the stage is set for the Orgrimmar invasion would make perfect sense.

That's Secrets of Ragefire and Battle on the High Seas, both scenarios.
