No derp, you don't just get out of Westpoint and say hey look I'm leading people from a comfy room with my new shiny 5 stars. I know that. I would just want to ALWAYS be on the front line.
Stay a Junior NCO then, thats the only way you can do it.

NCO= Non commissioned Officer. A Junior NCO in the British army is a Lance corporal or a corporal. Typically a Corporal will command a Section (squad to you yanks) of 8 men, a Lance corporal will be second in command and will command a 4 man fire team.

I know It's just we got rid of JNCO some years ago we still have SNCO though.

(I know what an NCO does, as I'm a SFC, I just kinda forgot what JNCO are for)

Ach, you landlubbers! NCO's are petty officers!

I been in 9 years and still can't tell a first sergeant from a specialist based on their patches.

Hey, try it in the UN forces before everyone is used to the international patches, and even after, it's like "wtf does your rank do in your army, and why is it? and wtf is that rank anyway?

If I remember correctly, the UK doesn't even have my ranked as SFC, and I'm just seargent -.-

Tell me about it, it is very confusing especially since our lance corporals out rank US Army Sergeants. The only thing that makes any sense is the officer ranks, at least those are the same.

Enlisted life actually consists of mainly serving on the “front lines” For example, in the army a lot of enlisted soldiers take 10+ years to achieve the rank of first sergeant or master sergeant. At those ranks, from my experience, they tend to migrate away from being actively present from spearheading a lot of operations (not always).
In any case, at a certain point it becomes imperative that soldiers with “front line” experience from the platoon and company level be move to command levels in the battalion level or higher due to their experience. Lol, something tells me you have the spirit of an NCO because you would have a shitty opinion of your seniors and you have a desire to lead from the front.
Also, in reference to your previous comment on “following the plan” good military advisors are not yes men.

Possibly, but I would try to get a position that does not involve combat. Cooking food, transport or whatever. I don't want to kill people.

I was once asked by a US soldier if my rank (Oberwachtmeister) is actually sergeant first class or staff sergeant, and by the "task" description I'm both. \o/ (I think in the UK it's kinda reversed, as they had no problem, and just looked at it as sergeant)

I hit other, because as much as I'd love to protect my country (protection only, I wouldn't support invading another country), I wouldn't be able to sign up. I've got a bad knee and bad eyes. They wouldn't take me.

Yeah, but I'd still have my chain yanked by others wouldn't I :P

As I said, I probably would only get a handful of trusted people, but if it'd be enough to fight back (which is the original topic of the thread we managed to derail) then I'd be happy. Not under some countries official military though.

Also Skarssen, would you be able to tell between assault and tactical marines based on their symbol? That kinda also applies to Rich :P

If it's Mars attacks then sure, I'll fight. Otherwise, nope. I don't fight other peoples battles.

    Right now? Most probably not.

The UK doesn't have a clear conscience and it's accessory to some stupid shit considering the UK needs its tongue surgically removing from the ass of America.

If we were attacked right now it's probably because we deserve it.

I would most certainly not join the military. I would, however, have absolutely no problem picking up a gun and fighting side by side with other patriots against a foreign or even domestic (government) threat. And only if that threat meant the loss of millions of lives. There are millions of people that are patriots that are not in the military.
A true Patriot fights for their country, not for their government.

  16. #116
    Short answer, nope.

If the U.S had a government worth dying for then yes, but the clowns we have in office now can do their own fighting.

I don't even know why people voluntarily sign up at the moment considering the amount of stupid shit they will find themselves dragged into.
