I know the Gnomes do tech, but the Dwarves actually seem to have become very competent too, less of a joke and more reliable. In Twilight Highlands it's Dwarven Siege Tanks and their crews you encounter and help out, Gnomes are nowhere. The Submarine we use in Vashj'ir seems to be a mix of Dwarven and Gnomish tech for sure, but there's nothing whatsoever to suggest the Skyfire is anything but a product of Humans.

This sidelining and overtaking is clearly very deliberate, since if Gnomes were genuinely able to produce this tech themselves - they'd have taken Gnomeregan back years ago. That's what I mean by their own story being painted into a corner by their situation. They don't do anything and they can't be seen to be doing anything, because if they do too much it begs the question as to why they've not re-established themselves a new home, or retaken their old home.

we "take care of them" because its the right thing to do, plus they add strength to the alliance....Mechatorque is gonna own SoO

she is asking why those groups aren't rebuilding homelands for themselves the way the Goblins and Trolls are.
The draenei live in the exodar, and the worgen have reestablished themselves in darnasus like the goblins in orgrimmar.

As for the gnomes, they are working on taking Gnomeregan back, they just haven't succeeded yet.

The Goblins have completely re-engineered the coastline of a world zone (azshara) and built a town damn near the size a capital city, includine a high-speed rail system. The gilneans probably didn't even grow there own tree in Darnassus.

Great question. None of the alliance races aside from human see much story/character development though and those of late who have, haven't had very strong development. Perhaps we'll finally have an answer for the question at blizzcon this year?

The gnomes have been providing the Alliance the bulk of their technology since Warcraft II. They still do. Their gunships are built by gnomes.

Why? Okay fine Lore for beginners. Gnomes are smart. They are very smart, They are the main reason and sorce from all technology in the alliance, From the skybreaker, to the dwarven siege tank. Why have they not reglamied gnomergarden? Do you know ANYTHING about radioactivity? here is the knowlege you need about it : It does not goes away after just a week, it stays there for many many years. Even in IRL we dont have techonology that can just "remove" radioactivity on this level, but they have, they can cure Lepper gnomes.
Why the dranies? Will since in Genereld The alliance are the " good" guys, and Draeneis Gives them some really strong heroes, added to there are many many healers, The dranies could if they wanted have stayed out of it, but they wanted to help and resive help - i mean for god sake they even have their own island.
And last the worgen? they are with the alliance, because they used to be humans, and even when they betrayed the Old Alliance, it have been forgiven and now they are some Raw power in war.

Gnomes can build capital ships that fly but can't build themselves a new home ...

Just build a flying/tunnelling/floating city/fortress and call it New Gnomeregan. What's with the obession with retaking the irritated, troll infested hellhole that is old Gnomeregan?

it think it fair that the Trolls has more firm control over the echo isles than the Gnomes have over gnomeregad because the enemy voodoo-trolls and sea witches that controlled the echo islands were not as big a problem as the leper gnomes and all the technology they have access too. I totally get why gnomeregan is MUCH harder to retake than the Echo Isles.

As for motivation, the Darkspear were growing increasingly dissatisfied with living in Orgrimmar under Garrosh, and so they had a greater will to leave, whereas i think the gnomes are pretty happy in Ironforge, and while they want their homeland it's not a pressing concern.

The Trolls are like children who are fighting with their parents and move out the instant they come of age (18 usually) and the Gnomes are like children whose parent coddle them and spoil them and don't charge them rent and they end up living at home well into adulthood.

Exactly this....all the tanks and planes etc are likely created mostly by gnome technology
Velen is a powerfull ally to have, Exodar is fully functional again according to the short story so I am pretty sure that draenei aren;t a burden on the Alliance and more of an extra set of troops under a wizened leader with uber powers.
Worgens are also humans...so you can't really abandon them....not to mention that their curse makes them the perfect task force when assaulting Forsaken.

As for homelands, I thing the Draenei are fine with their Exodar...I don't think they have anything to complain.....the high-tech being used in there makes it maybe one of the best locations to live in.
Gnomes, have a home, Gnomeregan.....they retook the surface and are just one step away from their city (the radiation)
The worgen probably still have hope that they can reclaim their capital and don't want to rebuild somewhere else.....
WoW characters that need/deserve to get killed/punished/otherwise removed from the story: Tirion(dead now), Thrall, Malfurion, Sylvanas(soon?), Jaina, Tyrande

Since actual teleportation spells *outside of the game* function ridiculously differently (i.e. not everyone can do them and those that can - not often) I find it almost impossible to believe that the Alliance ships their injured to the Exodar, which is way off in the middle of nowhere, rather than treating them either in-the-field or sending them to Stormwind.

seriously though that point in Jessickas argument is the weakest not hardly relevant to the main question she is asking which is why they don't REBUILD, and the fact your argument focused on that point shows you focused on the least important part of the OP's premise

The gnomes left Ironforge in Cataclysm. The reason they haven't retaken Gnomeregan is because Blizzard really doesn't give a shit about gnomes beyond providing an excuse for Alliance to have some level of technology, and as jokes.

FTFY. Given the country's history, seems more appropriate.

There shouldn't be any question about gnomes. They provide Alliance thier superior technology. Gnomes are not about military force but about thier intelligence and inventions. It's them who created the Skybreaker to remind you.
Besides they're always within the units as some kind of mechanics and speciallists or researchers. While Dwarves also have thier own technology, Gnomes are much more flexible and potential on this field.

Worgen are for strategic purpose. They made very strong resistance against Sylvanas, they make a great warriors, spies, and they're still a manforce to be reckoned with. Gilneas once reclaimed can turn the tie of fate in current Lordaeron.

But when it comes to Draenei... I have no bloody idea. They're always the by-passer guys, they barely appear on the field, they barely do anything. They're mostly the damsels in distress (Urgh.... the Earthen Ring in Twilight Highlands -_- ), or they show off as some kind of wtf specialist( Draenei who is supposed to have knowledge about Gurubashi Trolls- why not some dwarf lady archeologist? Why space goat who is randomly there?) Sure I don't know whole numer of Alliance quests since I don't have time sadly to play anything than my main, but from what I saw so far, they're completely off, and I don't mean the fact they're alien race.

Draenei are highly confusing, they don't make any significant force, they don't provide Alliance anything, Azuremyst Isle is not in strategic location either. Velen at Cataclysm wanted to run away... again.
    I miss Mists of Pandaria

And irrelevant comparison. the Israelis actually LIVE in Israel, the Gilneans do not live in Gilneas. If Gilneas was resettled and surrounded by hostile foresaken and the alliance supported its continued existance surrounded by enemies *THEN* it would be like Israel

the South Koreans live in South Korea, if Gnomeregan was split into a Leper Gnomeregan and a Normal Gnomergan with a demilitarized zone buffering them *THEN* the Gnomes would be like the koreans

Keep in mind that many of the HUMAN characters are also refugees from Lordaeron or other human kingdoms that have fallen-- Stormwind is only one of many that once existed. Why do the Stormwind humans "put up" with them?

It's mentioned in a few of the out of game sources (Velen's short story and one of the novels-- I want to say Wolfheart, but it might have been one of the other early Cataclysm ones) that the Exodar is fully repaired and a lot of the Draenei are in Shattrath, trying to fix the remains of Draenor. They actually considered taking their ship and leaving Azeroth for a while.

I'm actually pretty sure the worgen successfully push back in the Silverpine leveling quests, but once again this isn't reflected in game. Gilneas is isolated, bordered only by low level Horde leveling zones.

Retaking Gnomergan, while sensible, would remove a leveling dungeon from the game and be redundant. With Ironforge literally in the same zone, there's no reason to give the Alliance a second capital there!

...or, alternatively, it's because they're not humans, elves, trolls, or orcs, and those are the only races that are allowed to have lore attention outside of the expansion that introduced them. Seriously, aside from Brann pushing buttons, when was the last time dwarves did anything significant in lore? (Blood in the Water barely counts, since that was more about Wrynn being the High King and Better than the other Alliance racial leaders despite being less than a century old.)
