I agree with it completely. A meal out is $30-$50 or more, so then a $6-10 tip. If you can't afford an extra $10, you obviously don't have enough money to be going out to eat. Get Wendy's for $5 or something if you can't be bothered to cook.

It's absurdly cheap to not tip someone when they make their living off it. At least here in the states, I always tip 20% unless the service was abysmal, and then I'll still usually tip 10% or so. It's a small amount of extra money comparatively, but if nobody tipped then nobody would be a waiter, and the whole industry would fall apart. So yeah. Stop being cheap, I actually quite like the statement, it's very true.

    A job is a job.

You'd be paying more for that meal if society lived up to what it should, so calm yer jets boyo.

And some people don't opt to work in that field, they have to. If everyone could have a 100k per year job, either meals would be incredibly expensive or there'd be no restaurants. Stop pretending otherwise.

Cool. You get screwed over by your employer and government, yet you blame the customer and sabotage their food. What a pathetic, immature and naive individual you are.

In the US, you fucking tip. Period. There is absolutely no excuse not to, under any circumstances. If you aren't in the US, do whatever the hell you want, I don't care, this is about the US. In the US, you tip.

If your service was so extremely bad that you feel like you shouldn't be tipping, you say something to the waiter/waitress, and/or speak to the manager. Chances are there are mitigating circumstances, and no decent person is going to stiff their server based on one slightly bad experience. Decent people understand that sometimes you just have a bad day, things happen.

As for not being able to afford to tip, give me a fucking break. If you can't throw a dollar down on the table, or at least be bothered to grab some change out of your car (there's some in there, don't say there isn't) you don't deserve to go out.

I'd pay money to see some of you assholes claiming waitressing is such a pathetic, low skill job that a chimp could do it actually try to do it. Just once, I dare you. I'll sit back and laugh as you fall flat on your face.

Seriously, grow some fucking respect for your fellow man. Sorry, but you aren't better than someone because they're a server, and if you think you are - pull the fucking plug, you're brain dead.

Pathetic pieces of shit like you are the reason I tip so well. They aren't 'entitled,' they aren't stupid, or lazy, etc.

Fact: You Have NO IDEA Why They Are Working There. NONE.

TLDR If you go to a restaurant in the US and don't tip your server (or at the least explain to the server/manager why you aren't tipping), you're a fucking piece of shit- and you should feel bad about your self.

Most places in London add tips into the bill.

Others I tip if the services was worth tipping. If it was a normal services then you aint getting shit from me.

I don't enjoy the idea of "tipping" unless it is shared due to the fact that the guy who brings me my food may not be the guy who made it for me.

And I am not under any conditions going tip someone who is able to pour a drink into a glass.

I don't care if the prices went up. At least I know what I'd be paying for and not feel obliged to pay for someone else's fuck up.

The price on the menu should include the service.

Again, why should the customer have to pay for the employer and government's short-comings?

It's the bosses and legislation that people should feel compelled to do something about, not tipping underpaid labour because the government says it's legal to do so and the employer takes advantage of it.

Yeah, just like I expect the customer to not call me an asshole when I serve his food with a smile. You apparently wouldn't tip just because you're bad at math.

Maybe restaurants should put up signs that they don't serve idiots who can't count. Your school system failed you.

Hopefully one day you will see that the employer and government are the ones to be angry at, not the customer unwilling to perpetuate idiocy by tipping people who aren't willing to help themselves.

Says you. Depending on the restaurant and how busy it is, I'll start a conversation with the waitstaff. You know, respect for my fellow man and all that, that you just blathered on so ignorantly about. As a matter of fact, I know several of the waitstaff at the Denny's across the street from where I live so well that I invite several of them to my Christmas and New Year's parties. While this obviously isn't something I do with every single person that waits on me in every restaurant I go to, I like to know the people serving me and make it a habit of finding out. So typically, yes, I DO know why they're working there.

Well sweet, that basically tells me that I don't need to tip, since you're doing it for me! How totally awesome of you!

You know the system. You are fully aware of it. By not tipping, it is YOU fucking over the waiter.

Can the system be changed? Yes. Should it be? Yes. Will it be? Probably not. And you KNOW this. God knows I hope waiters go on a nationwide strike. Then asses like you will be bitching about not being able to eat out.

It is what it is here. Stop acting like fucking over the single mother or the student is making a protest. This is the States. It's wrong and it won't change. Try being a good person once in your blessed life.

Yeah, we should pay servers 10 dollars an hour so they can another 5 bucks an hour on tips and make a total of 15 a hour. It's so easy to make hundreds of millions of people to change their ways.

You say that like noone should work as a waiter/waitress. Everyone just quit and work a "proper" job and serve themselves in restaurants.

You can't possibly be this stupid?

Huge design flaw IMO, there's no legal requirement to tip yet restaurant prices in many countries (US especially I'd guess) are based around the fact that you should tip. I don't think you should tip at all if you're not extremely satisfied with the service, the employees should get paid by the hour and not by how much guests feel obliged to tip simply due to feeling sorry for the people working there otherwise. A tip should be a bonus reward for doing a great job and treating your customers well, not a part of your regular paycheck.

In Sweden you're not nessecarily expected to tip, but it's a nice gesture for good service and you generally tip an additional 5-10% on top of the check itself and make it a nice even number as long as you're satisfied with the food and the service. However, if you're eating at a lunch restaurant or a less fancy place you're not expected to tip at all (lunch restaurant does not include McDonalds etc, I'm referring to restaurants with proper food).

I feel its more about the restaurants in the US to make more money and put the responsibility over to the
    costumers than anything else.
