Though the quests has you killing thousands of mobs, I'm pretty sure Blizzard clarified to say that it was only like, a few hundred. That's still pretty awful, though...

Easy solution: the Kirin Tor forge a new mana bomb with the Focusing Iris, bomb Gilneas, pulverize any blight shit, and let's rebuild!

Well, at least a mana irradiation shouldn't keep too much time to fade away (when Jaina returns in Theramore at the end of Tides of War the irradiation is almost dissapeared, but I could be wrong). A blight infestation/irradiation is something described to dissapear in years.

The blight you mean? I think that's specific to Southshore, where has been deployed a very powerful and concentrated version of it. Unless I forgot something.

I am going to have to check that out, I think they were using the standard blight. Not diluted, last time they use it was at the Wrathgate and we all know what it took to clean that up. Lot of dragon rife and the pre nerfed Life Binder's powers.

I think the blight requires regardless a lot of time of dissapear, but "thousand of years" I think it's tied to the Southshore's bombing.

Doesn't matter, we got Purgation Island now. Blizz should build an ally base on it and turn it into alliance quest hub.

it'll be a fortress built on an Island, it can be defended easier than Southshore.
