Frost mage opener

Plain and simple.
We have alot of 1-3 min cds. What is considered the optimal opener for the frost mage?

Aoe frozen orb + prismatic crystal. In case I need to nuke really hard I have a macro with Mirror Image, Icy Veins (glyphed to multistrike) and my trinket bound to it. Often I use that macro and then go frozen orb prismatic crystal.

Oh and get 1 stack off your Ice Nova as soon as possible so the cooldown starts rolling, preferably on the prismatic crystal for even more damage. But as far as I know Ice Lance > Ice Nova on the prismatic crystal.

During encounter should i wait for PC to come of cd or just orb right away?

I use TV instead of crystal. I'm top dps in my raid so I don't see any reason to switch right now. Most of the DPS in the raid is 632-635 while I am 639. PC is too clunky for me.
Anyway my rotation is:
-Frostbolt and hit water jet mid cast
-At 2 FoF cast bomb
-Cast CDs (MI and IV)
-Ice Lance while procced
-Frostbolt filler
-Cast orb.
-Ice Lance while procced.
-If a decent time passes without a FoF proc while orb is still up, cast water jet in the middle of a frostbolt.
-Ice Lance while procced

Biggest thing not to do is to cast water jet and orb at the same time. That wastes FoF procs that max out at 2. What makes TV good is that IV lasts awhile when you proc FoF a good amount of times. Though your MI cooldown is shorter, once you cast it again, all CDs will be up at the same time when IV comes off CD.

I kinda disagree a lot with this.

1. IN > Fbomb for now.
2. You don't put frostbomb on PC if you did pick PC. You apply it to the boss.
3. You don't water jet before PC.
4. You frozen orb before PC, not after.

My opener:

- MI (/petattack macro MI together so your pet starts attacking before combat since it has a long windup time)
- Prepot + Precast Frostbolt
- Frozen orb
- Prismatic crystal
- Pop trinket on-use effects and icy veins.
- Spam ice lances on the boss+PC, if you're out of ice lance, use ice nova, if you're out of ice nova, use brain freeze procs, if you're out of all of those, swap to the boss with frostbolt + water jet, then ice lance PC + boss again.


This gets you like an 80k DPS opener on single target, even with only 658 ilvl. (example: https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports...0&end=26991735)

Oh, yes. And bloodlust right after it on most bosses, but that depends on strategy.

I have not seen any difference favouring one over the other honestly. Sims don't seem to help deciding that either.

Pooling frozen orb for crystal to come off cooldown is a dps GAIN, yes.

How about Clarity ? 2 min CD, 1 for FO, 1:30 for PC.

What I do atm :

0:00 : FO + PC + CC
1:00 : FO
2:00 : FO + PC + CC
3:00 : FO
4:00 : FO + PC + CC

etc.

What FO + PC asap would do :

0:00 : FO + PC + CC
1:30 : FO + PC
2:00 : CC only ?
3:00 : FO + PC
4:00 : CC only ?


We could also delay CC by 1 min (making it a 3min CD) :

0:00 : FO + PC + CC
1:30 : FO + PC
3:00 : FO + PC + CC
4:30 : FO + PC


Sum-up, for a 4:30 length (# of spells)

Scenario 1 : 5 FO, 3 PC, 3 CC
Scenario 2 : 3 FO, 3 PC, 3 CC
Scenario 3 : 4 FO, 4 PC, 2 CC

cast frostbolt as tank is positioning boss
frozen orb, prismatic crystal+ icy veins + copeland. Ice Nova instantly to get rid of your first stack. After that it's 2 fof>2bf>1nova>1bf>1fof priority during crystal
1:30 you use orb and crystal
2:00 you use mirror images and cope
3:00 you use Orb, icy veins, crystal
4:00 you use image
4:30 orb + cope + crystal
6:00 images + orb+ iv + crystal
6:30 cope

You can use your second potion at 3:00 or at 6:00.

Opener also depends on the fight and strategy as sometimes the boss is moved on the pull. If the boss takes several seconds to get into position, I'd recommend WJing before casting orb/crystal.

Before pull
1. Cast mirror image
2. Pre pot
3. Pre cast frostbolt
3.5 Use timewarp (Depends on boss tactic)
On pull: Cast frostbolt
4. Use frozen orb (If boss need to move use one more frostbolt before frozen orb, so you will have frozen orb on boss for full duration)
5. Use prismatic Crystal
6. Use frost bomb on crystal (If you have frost bomb as lvl 75 talent)
7. Use Icy veins macro (Racial cd and trinkets)
8. Use all you procs on Crystal
9. When out of procs or 2 sec back of crystal use both Ice nova
9.5 If frost bomb, use frost bomb on boss
10. Use the rest of you procs
11. Use frostbolt + water jet on boss to get 2 more ice lance procs

"If you know the boss will stand still for PC full duration, you can use Frost bomb on boss "just before PC" then place PC on top of boss, and then use procs on crystal."
