    No Rest for the Wicked

Comes out today in a few hours

From Moon Studios, the award-winning developers of Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps comes No Rest for the Wicked, a visceral, precision Action RPG set to reinvent the genre.

    Seems good.
Top view ARPG but with the twist of having more emphasis on action combat.

    Also is a looter.

Been really hyped about this, intending to play it the moment early access becomes available (from this comment, 1 hr 13 mins to go).

One of my streamers I watch is supposed to play it today.

    Top down Dark Souls?
We're all newbs, some are just more newbier than others.

Just a burned out hardcore raider turned casual.
I'm tired. So very tired. Can I just lay my head on your lap and fall asleep?

More or less, it's got a bit of ARPG sprinkled in - Drops are random so each playthrough is varied, though I don't know how significant of a degree.

For some reason i was expecting the game to be cheaper
I charged my steam wallet with 50 bucks in preparation expecting maybe to "gift" one copy to a friend.

But i hear game is 40 bucks

No complaint, seems like a very good game. Just making conversation.

This, WH3 dlc and Manor Lords will keep me busy for a while.
Do you hear the voices too?

    PoE meets Dark Souls.

Visuals are solid, as is the audio. Story looked cool from what I saw.

Mechanics... not so much. Inventory management looks to be a nightmare, crafting system is dated (can't craft from a chest), from what I've seen there doesn't seem to be any kind of healing flask like DS/ER/Other Soulslike games.

Personal opinion watching it being played: Needs a bit of time in the oven.

    It is kinda slow.

  13. #13
Needs more time to cook, but the slower pacing is awesome.

I'm so fucking sick of the zoom zoom meta.

I enjoy the slow-pace since this is my first (somewhat) souls-like.

Tried to parry 10 times with a shield...failed every single attempt so far
My first random weapon after the shipwreck was a 1H-mace...was disappointed...BUT was quickly impressed by what it seems to be its unique-ability to pummel enemies who are in "down-state"
    Quite interesting.

Am I petty in that Im turned off by some of the streamers/content creators they listed in their video? People attracted to particular games, lots of people who only seem games through a WoW lense. Also kind of the fact that they named any streamers in a press release at all. It's giving game made to be streamed. Sterile with just enough to feel different but not really. Porn for streaming audiences.

I think you're reading too much into marketing.

Marketing games via streaming can make games pretty successful if they hit that wave and get a lot of attention like a palworld or among us etc

I'm not against marketing. Streams are a great way tool for devs. Not against sponsorsed games. At the end of that first video to they listed a bunch of streamers who mostly play sponsored games or the release of the week. It's not a slight at those streamers, i like some of them which why is noticed the list, but the games they play tend to have a particular feel to them. Games that follow a certain regardless of genre. This game immediately went from one I might follow to one im suspicious of just because of featured group of streamers.

Was fun so far. Think I spent.. 3 hours ish maybe in the zone before tutorial boss just exploring every corner possible. I enjoy the verticality, looking for secrets, and so far its pretty damn good.

Didn't die much, I think from combat only a few times so far, and none of them were on the first boss. What I did die to tho, and very often at that, was from falling down a cliff (and even if it isnt a that high). Just a bit too much momentum close to an edge and my man jump down 2 feet first no question asked.

Other than that, I'm a hoarder, and with that much exploring before reaching first town I was full of crafting mats and had to already start the dilemma of what I could drop to pick that next thing I found. Maybe a little bit more inventory slots would be good, but I recognize I have hoarding issues.

I was skeptical of the camera, its great to see things on top of your screen, but with that angle I was wondering how it would be when the enemies are at the bottom of your screen, where you see much less. It wasn't as bad as I tough, I think they did a good job with this. Sometimes I had issue to see my characters, wall / trees that would not hide, but it was rare and I suppose that's the kind of thing they will patch.

Game need more tooltip, more information when you over. You can have details on the main stats (those you increase each level), but for some reason you cant (at least with controller I couldnt find how) go and check the other stats for information. Things like the calculated DR from your armor for example. I also couldnt find how to check the runes of my weapon. Again might be a case of an error code 18, but I got a staff early in the game with X and Y abilities, and I had no way to read what they do.

Also the durability system is wack, I don't like it at all. I'm fine with durability system, but not if I have to repair all the time. You cut 5-6 trees and your axe is almost done, same with any other gathering tools. I'm sure there will be higher quality with better durability, but even if its starter kit its too weak, its not fun going to gather stuff and having to go back to repair because you were wild enough to gather a whole 14 pieces of wood.

The cutscenes so far are cool, I like the dark tone, and the art style grow on me.

I stopped playing after entering the city for the first time and my game crashed so it was a good sign to go to bed, that was my only crash tho. Overall I'd say its a decent game so far, clearly need more time in the oven but its early access for a reason, I wasn't expecting it to be perfect. I'd say its worth if you really really want to play it, its definitely an interesting take on the arpg genre, but otherwise it might be wise to just wait a bit until they release some patches following the feedback they'll receive.
