    Part compatibility and choosing a motherboard

    Hi, I'm planning on building a new PC in a few weeks and I've never done it before so I'm looking for a bit of help. I'd like some help choosing a motherboard, and I want to make sure everything is compatible with each other. Here are the parts:

    * Power Supply: Cooler Master 600W (http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-...pr_product_top)

    * Graphic Card: GTX 760 (http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desk...specifications)

    * CPU: Intel i7 4770k (http://ark.intel.com/products/75123)

    * RAM: Cosair Vengeance from my current PC I am reusing (http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengea...sair+vengeance)

    * Case: HAF 913 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...SIN=B00BCXF6O4)

    * Optical Drive: (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...SIN=B0033Z2BAQ)

    * Hard Drive: (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

    I'm pretty sure that is everything, let me know if I missed anything important or there are some recommendations. For a budget for the motherboard anywhere from 50-150 dollars is okay.

    The ASUS Z87-A.

    As for your components:

    1) The i7 is largely unnecessary for gaming purposes, go for the 4670k if it's primarily for gaming;
    2) Not too sure on the PSU, as I don't know the OEM on it;
    3) You can get the HAF 912 Blue from Newegg for $65.

    For gaming, this is the partslist I'd recommend (without the case, as it doesn't appear on Pc Part Picker):

    PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

    CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($225.99 @ NCIX US)
    CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($32.98 @ SuperBiiz)
    Motherboard: Asus Z87-A ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($143.98 @ SuperBiiz)
    Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($58.99 @ NCIX US)
    Video Card: Asus Radeon R9 280X 3GB Video Card ($315.98 @ SuperBiiz)
    Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($89.99 @ Microcenter)
    Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer ($16.99 @ Newegg)
    Total: $884.90
    (Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

    Maybe this would help with the PSU?
    Yeah, no. It failed on HardOCP's base PSU testing - sadly, it's a firecracker OEM, it seems.
