No it isn't. It's meant for new people and alts, and it's really good for what it is.

Timeless is one the most awesome things i have even seen in wow.

i used to be like op, always worried about what other people got and how they played, and whether their badness was ruining my day.
now i don't give a shit. as long as i'm having fun, i don't really care.
op: stop worrying and just play the game. it is a game, right?
I hate the Timeless Isle design. There is absolutely nothing i find interesting or appealing in it, apart from the "attack your own faction" item.
OP has obviously never done an underwater escort quest with no checkpoints with a retarded AI in first person view.

My wife came to me and asked: "What have you done to the poor cat? She is half dead..."
None of the Timeless Isle is mandatory. You don't need to grind for the achievement. That's your own fault for doing it. And if it's such a grind I don't think that makes the people doing the grinding lazy...just saying, they'd NOT do any grinding if t hey were actually lazy. Bit of a contradicting "point" there. Don't know where you get the "never ever ending grind" thing from. I do the weekly and Celestials/Ordos once a week (twice if I take my alt) and I'm done with the place.
TLR you're just another person who will cry about anything and everything Blizzard does. You don't need to go to the Isle AT ALL. Stop.

Isn't that just a tribute to another game?
Guild Wars 2 and the Timeless Isle in WoW don't feel all that similar to me. Timeless Isle is more about trying to find rare spawn mobs rather than the branching event chains that Guild Wars 2 has. The only place they're similar is the crossed swords events on Timeless Isle, which aren't all that common place, and even then don't really compare to the complexity that the GW2 events have.Timeless isle is, basically, the blizzard developers showing how little fresh ideas they have, since they need to copy concepts from current popular mmos and inject it into there game.
"People played and enjoyed guild wars 2, lets make content with that theme!"
The biggest problem for me is how useless the timeless coins are. Sure, you could farm for a few days and buy 476 epic gear, or you could just queue for ToT or SoO to get better. It's nice for gearing up alts, with the set-pieces, but epics are raining to the extent that you will already have gear for 3-4 chars just by going to the island and goofing around for a few hours every week. The rep-farm is just there, the mount is a different color of a mount we already have, and I just don't see why anyone would spend time on the island every day farming. If the timeless coins were useful, like in the mount not requiring rep, or more mounts, better gear or a title. Whatever, if there were more things (and better things) you could get for the timeless coins, that would have been great. Now we're stuck with a useless currency, and a rep-farm that isn't worth it, because it takes hours and hours of farming, and all you get is an ugly drake we have already seen before.
I don't mind the harmless ones, like the PvZ clone. Absolutely, in no way, mandatory.
Now, the mandatory ones (farmville...) I have a problem with. I understand it's cute to put a throwback to another game in, but don't make me do it every day to keep up on my raiding mats.
The world is a big place. People do all kinds of things in it. Some are interesting to me, some annoy me, some bewilder me. I am usually too busy trying to keep my little corner uncluttered and somewhat comfortable to worry about all the other corners too much.
Unless there is pie.
My suggestion is to show your discontent and unsubscribe to WoW. The only way you can really make Blizzard understand their product sucks is to speak with your wallet and write a short explanation why when prompted. If the game now is so poor you took the time to write an essay like this, you should probably unsub and find another game better suited to your desires.
"Mandatory" is a bit exaggerated for something that simply offers more convenience. I just started doing anything with the farm at all like 2 weeks ago, and it's not been mandatory, nor has it felt mandatory. More like "something to do" each day.
Sure, it can be convenient for getting some passive mats, but it's definitely not mandatory.
I don't mind it but I tend to just go for the one-time chests, a few bosses, some dailies and then I split. The whole thing is one big "gamble" which is a dumb man's version of "omg I might get THAT item..." when in reality you have to achieve the perfect RNG to get the items you want. Its amazing to watch people running all over the Isle for 3-4 hours killing tons of bosses yet they're the same people who complained about dailies that only took them 10-20 minutes and you could buy loot at the end ... now there's the "What If!" factor to every boss... "What if it drops a Burden..." and the time it takes the average person to get one, they could probably get the same result by doing dailies for a week.
I'll do it later to get the mount but the rest ... just a time sink for Alt's and lazy people.
Not going to bother reading the OP's post, just give my opinion. This concept out of all that have been offered in MoP is the worse one. Mobs die to fast to even bother, I hate camping always have. The dailies that are offered take way to much time to complete, respawns take way to long. The Celestials and Ordos are not enough reason to even bother to go over to lag island on my high pop realm.
The Mogu Runes of Fate coins being tied to the Timeless coins, I still run ToT to get gear on my alts I don't want to have to grind endless amount of timeless coins on 9 other characters. I know this sound a bit whiney, but we were able to get the other pervious coins by at least farming them directly or using the less charms of good fortune to acquire them. Having to farm yet another coin to get the Mogu Runes was just I bad idea. Also I do not like the whole farm some chest and get some gear tokens concept, I would at least depend on the RNG gods in the LFR to drop a piece of gear. Seriously I am not that lazy that I can't get off my own butt and at least queue for a raid or go into one.
I am still having a hard time believing Blizzard wants to continue this concept and calls it a success, maybe from the ability to use old or other content, but that is it. If this is what can be expected in WoD from the beginning then this is just lazy design concepts and not actually providing any mean of meaningful content. I rather have things that have a goal or a purpose, like Isle of Thunder where you have to have everyone open up the place in stages to be able to get to all the content, even the Patch 5.3 Barrens Weekly Quest and Events was better than Timesink Isle. I also enjoyed the Patch 5.1 Daily Quests and Storyline in Krasarang, I would like to see more of this in the future.
I admit having to do all those dailies in 5.0 really burnt me out, but I enjoy doing dailies while waiting on a queue to pop for a dungeon or the LFR. It really makes the time fly much faster and they are an easy means of gold or the charms, since it seems they are staying in the game. Timeless Isle is for the really lazy people or the mindless people that just like the constant grinding. It serves little purpose in advancing the game or the storyline. It just a place to grind coins for mounts and gear tokens, as well as grind one meaningless rep that has no purpose than being able to buy a mount and pet. This is just boring after the first day, even getting a chance at a piece of 553 or warforge gear is not enough of a reason for me to bother to go over there.
Please Blizzard at least stretch the imagination a bit further than doing some more of this lazy design concept.
I don't disagree with OP, but I also understand why Blizzard did it. Plus, they've said it's a template for "dynamic" content going forward, so expect more of it.
The "bigger bag" achievement really should give a title as a reward instead of 10 measly achievement points. Perhaps "Collector"?
