First heard about this earlier this year some time and I was worried for a while when they said their studio was flooded but I'm glad to see they're back on track. Really looking forward to this.

It looks cool, what's the point of the game?
While I think it would be cool to explore vast reaches of ?randomly generated space?, What is the gameplay exactly? Its not very clear. Maybe sandbox games aren't for me, but I need my game to have some structure. Ill definitely be watching out for this one though.
Afaik it is coming to pc as well. As for the point... well you explore the galaxy or whatever. The universe is persistent and procedurally generated, and you get to name anything that you happen to discover first.
There's a good article about it here.
Basically:
Any planet you discover on your journey is marked on your galactic map, along with its name, its atmosphere and what resources you found there. If you choose to, you can then share that information with every other player, uploading it so that it’s shared across everyone’s galactic map.
You’ll get credit for discovering it. You’ll also, if the materials there are valuable, attract players to come visit. No Man’s Sky isn’t a multiplayer game, in as much as you’ll never see another player. But the galaxy is the same between everyone and actions of “significance” will be shared. If you kill a single bird, that won’t be shared. If you make an entire species of bird extinct, then those creatures will blink out of existence for everyone.
So you just run around and shoot stuff if you want? Is there a purpose? Can you build stuff, take over stuff, beat bosses, anything?
game looks bloody amazing, maybe not the gameplay wise (we know nothing about it tbh) but since i was a kid I dreamed to visit different planet and shit, this is like dream come true + it's on PS4 so I'm set already for it.
Definitely one off the most impressive games yet on E3 imo.
Omfg. Well worth your 18 minutes.
Game of the decade.
Edit: Missed the other thread about this game. Whoops.

I think the game looks incredible, but I share other peoples concerns that the gameplay could be shallow.
While the concept of billions of procedurally generated planets is interesting on paper, if they are all just blue cows then green cows then purple cows then it will get old fairly quickly.
Saw this and got a good laugh.

What do you call a tsundere Wookie? Chew-b-b-baka
One of the biggest, most respected, and definitely one of the coolest mainstream entertainment nerds, Stephen Colbert, just put this game into the mainstream consciousness:
I know as a game it's not much of a thing; nothing really happens, you just go from planet to planet, but as an experience, I won't be able to live without it. I have to have my own star system somewhere.
This game looks beautiful and I want it.
Anyone else getting sick of all the "This game is only exploration!! ITS GOING TO BE BORING" comments everywhere No Man's Sky is mentioned?
Even though they've basically said 100 times that there will be tons of things to do. Jesus Christ i'm getting sick of people that do zero amounts of looking into something before speaking out of their asses.
You're referring to me, so I'll respond; it has no fast-paced action a'la Doom, it has no strategy or micro a'la StarCraft, and it has no RPG storyline a'la the Witcher or Fallout. It also is no EVE, which has for years, decades soon, mastered the space-faring MMO side.
It's a space "Sims". You fly to planets, you explore them, you report back, you gain money and leave your mark. That's what it is. What else is there? Feel free to elaborate. Also, you don't have a monopoly on being sick at people who claim things. In fact, you just made a claim, and kinda feel sick of it. So how about you clarify?
I was actually referring to the comments on the Colbert Video. But Ok.
It has Multiple Factions, Space Battles, You can choose to join Pirates to take down battle stations for huge amounts of rewards, you can fight FOR the battle Stations and receive the scrap from the Pirates that you can kill/become friendly with the Alien race you helped, you can explore planets, you can name creatures, you can upload it to the database, you can go to trade stations and trade items with Aliens species to increase their friendliness towards you, you can hunt down ancient aliens artifacts which open up lore about Ancient Races throughout the Galaxy, you can upgrade everything you have, you can fight Aliens on planets with guns(or rather your upgraded multitool). You can basically do what you please.
The people that have this "all you do is explore and report stuff" mentality obviously have watched fucking zero about the game from any other source and have watched the few 3-5min videos which he often says "this isn't enough time to show what can be done, but here are a few of them"
It would be like watching a 3 Min Video where the guy rides around on a Mount to showcase the enviroment and then complaining that "WOW ALL THEY DO IS RIDE AROUND ON A HORSE!! THIS IS BORING".
