Deso still didn't succeed with the wurms tho.

Loot also fails, so I gave up completely until we succeed 100% like Teq. Not worth it right now imo
Couldn't agree more. Couldn't get into the main server for the whole of the week they updated Teq and cant get in now for either Worm or Marionette. So far I've spent longer trying to get into the main server than i ever spent waiting for queues in WoW. It sucks and makes me really hate the overflow system.

Had a couple of close fights on overflows for Marionette (4/5) but I am currently on 14/14 failed attempts. Doesnt help when a couple of times I've come from the loading screen to the platform to find myself in a sea of red circles and already downed

Sad thing is, I just heard from my guildies Deso succeeded as the first EU server to kill wurm >_<; I mean, it's awesome and I'm really proud we did it. But I'm confident it will only be harder to do it again because you've got to fight for a spot.

I didn't know you were on deso too, I'm sure you'll have seen me in LA
In most cases, I understand the other side's viewpoint and how they came to it, but cannot tolerate their stubbornness to not see mine (the right one).

Yeah. I wanted to mention loading screens too. With so many people, having loading screen when entering the portal is just dumb. It takes ages to load and there is a timer >.> It's on the same map... why the hell do I need to load it 3 times? >.>

I have no idea. I consider myself quite lucky for having accaptable loading screens (for someone who doesn't have an SSD) but I can imagine how it must be for some other people... ouch. Eh it wasn't too much of a problem if it didn't take you a full day to kill one boss.

I've got pretty good load times (I've got Gw2 on my ssd) but even then if your late getting to the portal by the time you load in there can be all sorts of hell right were you spawn.

About the meeting, I probably would have known if I did! BUT I must add I have a horrible memory when it comes to remembering people......

That's why for Teq, the organized efforts usually went to an overflow with their group, I believe. Rather than trying to camp out to get in on the home server, camp out in an overflow. That assumes an organization of course. It's too bad there's no workable system for "bump guests in favor of residents" or something.

Go Desolation! shame I'll never get into main. We deffo seem to have a pretty closed top-end community and couple that with our reputation means your never getting in the main server without knowing people. ( Hell, not even then atm).

Except for the energy probes I didn't notice that at all unless you're counting what it takes to open everything in Scarlet's lair. I think all but 3 achievements are boss related, which really sucks. Personally, I consider instance nodes worth getting, which means there's no way to get them without doing the bosses even if you just show up to fail every day for a week and a half -- which so far is how I'm going to have to do it as I have yet to be part of a successful attempt either.

and some of them even encourage bad play.
Nothing new or surprising there. :P

Same, in particular on the cleaving clockwork thingie. I have a little more survivability because I've been doing it on my WvW-specced, Dire-wearing necro [insert how I'm helping the encounter fail by not using a 'zerker class/build], but that doesn't help very much against that thing.

As far as overflows are concerned, I invite anyone with an 'off hours' group to come to Crystal Desert. Virtually no one does marionette (no idea about wurm) past midnight EST, at least during the week.

Yeah, energy probe slayer and dismantler, plus finding the secret lair, so 3 for that. then 1 for doing the 5 different lanes, leaves you doing the event 7 times if you don't win. (Win is 1 and Cheering is 1) (The cheer spam when 150 people are doing it is... bad.) The vigil escort is also one, though I have yet to try the wurm still.

The other boss ones I've had bad luck actually getting. I have the "dodge a high kick", but not the other dodges, and I've only got 2/5 regulators, when I've done at least three (though not sure if the overall regulator event succedded, so maybe that's what is required.)

I do like the instance nodes, though I really don't think they're worth the trouble most times. It would also be nice if each node had more than one time/ way to get it too.
Remember also that you do get the cypher fragments from the defending, and also still get a bag as long as you do at least one chain, so it's not a total waste even if you lose. I have come to the conclusion that the regulators for each chain should only require like 3 of 5, rather than all five though. It really sucks standing there on your cleared platform and watching the last platform fail.

Also, I wonder if this event will end in a week. It seems like a small thing, so I assume it will. (The Marrionette)

I like the idea of the boss fights

I just don't like the boss fights (if that can make sense). And unfortunately most of this current update seems to be concentrated on these two boss encounters.

I'm hoping the next update is something more to my tastes.

Now then Dooze, from all your recent posts abouit MMO, what are your tastes, I don't think ANet has a lot of hope to impress you...not that I can talk. I honestly can't be bothered chasing these bosses, it seems like no one on my server is doing them or they already did it that day and arent interested and I have to guest somewhere else. Not bothered anymore, at least I can keep GW2 on my hard drive for the next update.

Need to actually get in for a kill >.< Thus far the few times I've managed to get in when one of the boss events is running one group fails and the event fails : (

For a game that prides itself on casual pick up and play, the only challenging content is only challenging due to the difficulties of actually organising it.

Or let us hop to other platforms once we cleared our own. It really is irritating standing there watching the others fail.

Exactly, a-net said they tuned it to hardcore players. Like karizee said, hardcore how?
Having the patience to taxi 150 people to a specific overflow hardcore, bitch please.
Hardcore as in waiting hours semi afk to get in the map, bitch please.

I want actual hard content, but it's too much to ask. And the reasoning is: "It's too much of a niche, that way people won't be able to see the content." I have yet to kill taco, because I just NEVER get in on the main server, same for these retarded bosses.

    Also workable.

It just seems like they need to strike a balance of making challenging content that can't be ruined by other players.

Josh answered a player's questions and addressed some of the issues regarding both overflows and platforms on a post yesterday:

As far as I can tell there are a couple challenges we are trying to overcome. First, we are trying to teach the community a new skill: self organization. And I’m happy to see that in the aggregate, they ARE learning. I’m sure as this process continues we will find better ways to accommodate the communication structures that will emerge.

Secondly, from both a technical and player-experience perspective, it’s best to break up zergs as much as possible. Thematically keeping everyone feeling like they are contributing to a common cause from multiple locations, and still feel heroic is an interesting challenge to balance. Always looking for new ideas on this issue!

Qaelyn.7612: distribute players by parceling them out one platform at a time like a poker dealer rather than selecting platforms for them randomly? Really? As a programmer myself I was astonished when I found out that it was possible to have 5 on one platform and 1 on another. I mean, this is really basic stuff!
Having 5 on one platform and 1 on another could only be a very edge case requiring several people to drop out at the right moment. Our script does exactly what you said, poker dealer style.

Qaelyn.7612: let people on platforms who have already completed help out with other platforms
We tried really hard to get this in. Every solution we came up with had technical constraints.

Qaelyn.7612: lengthen the timers a bit
The timers and mob HP were balanced and rebalanced several times in an attempt to find a sweet spot that would ensure people couldn’t faceroll the event, but wasn’t so difficult that no one could do it. Everyone’s mileage will vary. And as with any group activity, virtual or real life, there is luck inherent in that. Some people hate that dynamic and some love it. If someone has an idea about how to ameliorate the inherent luck factor in group events, please speak up!

Qaelyn.7612: make it easier for parties to be in the same overflow where there’s actually enough people to win
I know there are people working on various solutions to this problem.

Qaelyn.7612: have the event scale in difficulty based on the number of players
It scales quite a bit. The more people there are in a lane will change the number of vets and champs that spawn, and the platform boss’s HP scales based on how many end up on the platform.

So it sounds like they don't have any easy answer to being able to jump platforms yet, but they are working on an overflow solution.

It has already been a week though, most likely the marionette will be gone and replace with the giant drill.
