My gran used to leave out food for a fox that would come in her back yard every night, unless a badger came instead and scared the fox off then it was the badgers food.

Ely has a point. Urban foxes, in London especially, have no fear of anything. They would still run if an adult human came near them, but they likely wouldn't run far. Some of the more inner city ones have probably never seen a blade of grass in their lives and wouldn't know what to do in the countryside if they found themselves there.
TBH I'd sooner encounter a fox rather than a pissed off badger.
