"Eye of Azshara" Trademark appears

Because it isn't Hearthstone expansion. Some random guy on Hearthpwn who happened to have privilege of posting news came out with a weird theory based only on the fact that Azshara zone looks ALMOST like an Eye (and in reality is just a Horde symbol) and happens to have Goblin base in the middle of it - and now people repost it everywhere like it was truth from heavens. Either it isn't Hearthstone expansion or Blizzard is retarded.

So it's pretty much a Game Theory.

Debatable. I recall a theory going around that WoD actually wasn't meant to be the next expac at first, even though they knew Garrosh would be the final boss the whole time. Doubt it ever got confirmed, but still.



Bold part is where it matters. IN SOME WAY OR ANOTHER it will tie into the next expac, yes. But we don't know HOW. Assuming it needs to be the Legion when we don't even know half of the events of the expansion is silly.

I've already stated a possible way to tie it into an Azshara expansion as well, but that doesn't mean the next expansion is definitely an Azshara expansion. It's speculation - Plain and simple. There is limitless possibilities for what might happen between now and the end of WoD that could tie us into any kind of expansion. And it only takes one patch to show it - After all, that's apparently what the Timeless Isle was for in 5.4?

That doesn't mean you can't look and see what is the most likely even if it doesn't happen. If it's a 2 tier xpac their options are very limited as it's going to be really hard to make a story out of something that doesn't exist in 6.0 (sort of like how the Blood Elf lore in MoP came out of nowhere, but they had 3 patches to build it up).

Also, while TI gave Garrosh the ability to start WoD, from the beginning he was going to be the device for launching the next xpac.

Here's what we know: 1. Final tier will be heavy Legion influence. 2. Cho'gall is playing with void stuff (though this story seems like it possibly will get wrapped up in 6.0/1) 3. Wrathion will play a part and there already are Bronzes working here. 4. In BC the Arrakoa tried to summon an Old God.

Also, and what perhaps narrows it down even more, is most likely we are going back to MU after this. That excludes things like fighting a Draenor Old God next xpac.

While I'm pretty doubtful of anything I read on 4chan, I wouldn't be surprised to see something like this happen. From a game design standpoint, it would make sense, but this community would rage so hard...

Am I the only one that thinks this is very clearly a Hearthstone expansion? There was a press preview of the what the Hearthstone stuff would be about, and it was very engineering based, mostly goblin looking machinery, with a goblin card back coming soon. With the Goblins now being based in Bilgewater Harbor, which is in AZSHARA, seems to tie into this name.

Tl;dr: almost certainly they need to make something or someone in Draenor to the trigger of an Azeroth-based threat. That's pretty limiting. Especially with 2 tiers.

My speculation is that Gul'dan brings the AU!Legion to Azeroth. The expansion has Azshara and Gul'dan sharing the villain role, and focuses on finding the remains of the Tomb of Sargeras. Azshara tries to manipulate both the Old Gods and the Legion to take power for herself.

Yes, with Gul'dan escaping to Argus for 8.0.

Well, fact that we can't create a new expansion theme in several seconds before posting doesn't mean Blizzard employees can't do that. Seriously, anybody thought about something as "crazy" as WoD before they announced it?

Like I wrote before, if the plan is to release the next xpac a year after WoD, when and how would you announce it?

The thing is, if they announce it as WoD 2.0 as a continuation of the story with the level cap staying the same, it wouldn't hurt sales at all.

Naming and creating a Hearthstone expansion after a relatively unknown town in the middle of a non-popular zone that is shaped like a Horde symbol, not an eye, seems reaaaaaaaaaaaally odd and non-likely.

Naming and creating a WoW expansion after a very well known villain with lots of story, history, etc, as well as the name also having potential reference to an artifact or "eye of the storm" type events(aka hurricanes), seems much more likely.

Granted, both "work" and are possible, but I think one is way more likely(in terms of story/name) than the other.

While the premise for getting to WoD is a bit "odd" the actual content of it (fighting legion and Orcish warlords) seems to be quite attractive to those casually interested in story.
