They have one on the market right now that focuses on platformers and adventure games. It came out in 2012. Apparently Super Mario 3d World, Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, Wind Waker HD, Wonderful 101, Lego City Undercover, Bayonetta 2, Captain Toad, Devil's Third, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, Yoshi Wooly World, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, Splatoon are all party games with shitty controls.

Don't forget those party games in Mario Kart 8 and Smash that have excellent controls though!

MS and Sony adopted the same model though. The PS4 and Xbox One where profitable with 1 game purchase from day 1, unlike the 360 and PS3 which both lost shit loads on each sale. Notice how when the 360 and PS3 first came out they where competitive with high end PCs at the time, PS4 and Xbox One where no where close.

So yea, it's not just Nintendo making consoles with out dated specs anymore. Everyone is, because no one wants to lose their ass on just trying to get a market share anymore.

A big reason for that was, that PCs where originally meant for business and work and not very good with graphics. It took a long time until PCs really had a unified 3D standard (I remember using my Voodoo 1 card with exclusive games on it and before that the whole soundcard troubles).

With DirectX and OpenGL the PC as a 3D system and gaming machine was finally something for the mass market. Now PCs have highly specialisted and very expensive 3D chips (get a TitanX for example today - the card alone will cost more than two consoles) and the consoles can not innovate in this sector anymore like they did up to the Gamecube console. They have to use PC 3D chips in a custom version. No wonder that a 400$ system can not have a better graphics chips than a 1500$ pc in that environment.

PS4 is still much more powerful than WiiU. And a complete and working PC for 399$ will be slower than a PS4.

Wii was much less powerful than PS3. Nintendo is building cheap systems. Sony and Microsoft still build systems that are not a direct loss for the first years, but not much profit either. Nintendo on the other hand makes good money with each sold system. That's not a bad thing, the games are fun. But nobody should expect breathtaking graphics from Nintendo like we did when we saw Mario64 for the first time or Rogue Squadron 2 on GameCube in the year 2001:

To be honest, i hope Nintendo takes the opportunity to acually develop an hybrid between phone and gaming console.

I know it's a very big shot and not likely to happen, but the only thing actually missing from Nintendo handhelds are the phone capabilities - unlike in japan where streetpass works really well, it doesn't have much diffusion on the West markets because not many people actually wander with their 3DS in a pocket just to get additional data from other random people.

If that was also your phone however you would bring it everywhere. it would be also hard as hell to actually engineer an actually portable phone you can use also as a portable console.

Nintendo should:

A) Port all of it's older games to iOS
B) Make a console competitive with Xbox One and PS4 FIRST, and then add optional gimmicks later. No touch screens, no dual screens, no styli, no nunchucks... just a fucking good base system with a standard controller. If you want to make those things, bundle them with the games that use them and don't try to get 3rd party devs to have to make use of all of them.

SNES, N64, Gamecube = all standard solid systems
Wii and Wii U = gimmick

Gameboy = amazing
DS = gimmick 2 screens + stylus...

An article from Japanese publisher Nikkei has some "insider information" that Nintendo is going to use Google's Android operating system for the NX.

To that I say partial horseshit. Nintendo will develop their own OS, but possibly similar to Android in order to make games easier to port.

If they look to make a unified platform for games, then you will end up with the tail wagging the dog—AKA the crappiest hardware (mobile) dictating the graphics. Much like current PC/Console releases always have degraded graphics for them to run on the consoles. (Most recently Witcher3 compromising their PC graphics in order to release on console)

The day Nintendo uses a 3rd party OS on their handheld or console is the day I will eat a hat. Maybe, it can run or emulate android so they can easily port their mobile offerings to the console but for it's own games Nintendo is never going to use an OS that can be pirated out the ass hole. Why have bad motion controls? Just to be different? Why have a almost completely pointless Ipad in the middle of your controller? To be different?

The pro controller is actually great! I use that way more often and its not unheard of to see people use the pro controller in smash instead of the cult worship status GC controller

Also third party devs do not want to deal with adding motion controls or wii pad integration into their games. It also adds nothing that great into the experience. It was good for some first party titles, but horrible in many other instances.

I just hope that they're not trying to replace the Wii U with it, unless it's a new, more powerful home console, (which to be honest, would be pretty bad for Nintendo to release a new home console so soon after this one) but since it's rumored to be a handheld, I'm a bit concerned. Nintendo already has a really well selling handheld, why would they be creating a new one? Guess we'll find out @E3 in a few weeks.

I'm not saying that Zelda, Metroid or any other Nintendo game wouldn't look freaking amazing with a really powerful console, but meh, guess we will never find out.

The "iPad" controller is great though. You can play games on it while someone uses the TV for someone else, you can play multiplayer without having to split the screen in half, you can play multiplayer games where one player can actually keep secrets from the other players without them just glancing to the left and knowing what you are up to.
It's not ideal for every game, but it's a great piece of hardware. I love it.

Eh, just because they'd be using an Android OS, doesn't mean they won't be using a custom and semi-powerful AMD APU combo that can still system lock the games made specifically for the console. Some people on GAF (small minority in that thread) were going apeshit about this as well.

Pro Controller is my favorite Nintendo controller along with their classic pad add-on for the Wii-motes. Never liked the GC controller and never understood why people fawn over it so much. XBOX S pad was my favorite controller from that gen along with my custom made XB Arcade stick.

Same here, man. I have a PS4, N3DS, WiiU, and two custom PCs and I regret getting a PS4 (I can literally walk over and swipe the caked dust off it) since my PC, WiiU, and 3DS are my main sources of entertainment. To be fair though, I've always been a a Nintendo fanboy and will always favor them regardless. Graphics arms race doesn't work anymore as far as I'm concerned.

Witcher is a great game, but not a series that has new installments often and is better on PC. Same with Bethesda games, GTA, etc. That being said, its not needed to be said that these are also not exclusive titles. Thats fine but so many titles coming out now are all beautiful on the outside and hollow on the inside.

The whole, 1 quest in Witcher has more story than all of destiny is true. Also Look at the Order. And lets be honest, Bloodborne is just Dark Souls which gave it a good developmental advantage.

Look at all the HYPE games that came out, turned out to be meh, or bad, and we never heard of again, Titanfall, Evolve, Unity, etc. Great lookin games..... meh everything else.

But Genn, they aren't bad D: I like the motion controllers!
I like when they provide both options. The gamepad works as a pro controller, and we have the pro controller. The second screen is, like, super awesome. GF wants to watch TV, I want to play smash. Solution: I play on the gamepad! It's so convenient -_-

I use the motion controls to aim on Splatoon... Too many years since I played Turok 2 on the N64, I don't know what happened but I didn't managed to use the stick to aim again in the Wii U.
