The King's Avatar - 2019 live action adaptation

Actually really good! I think I prefer the live-action adaptation over the donghua/anime/animated series.

The visual storytelling is on point. In the anime adaptation, it was difficult to follow the action and understand what was happening. Didn't help that the battle narration was scrolling by too fast and it is difficult to remember the sheer amount of names (each cast member has two names: their real name, and their character's name, and both are used interchangeably so it's very hard to keep track of who is who). Here, even though the battle narration is the same, the visual flow is great. You can easily follow the action and understand who is where and what they're doing, which is impressive given the number of things going off at once. The facial animation is also great; you can just as easily tell what the characters are feeling as their avatars ingame as the actors are able to portray in real life. My only gripe is how forgettable the (ingame) character designs are. For a MMORPG, everyone looks generic, wearing the same black armor. They could have differentiated the ingame characters from each other with unique armor silhouettes or color schemes, but no, everyone has the same body shape and black armor. The production value is rather impressive! The comedy is gold!

Thanks Val for the link on King’s Avatar. I do enjoy the gameplay in the live action more as it’s more understandable. I do not like how they’re representing Ye Qiu - I don’t remember him being so incompetent in the anime. Will have to rewatch it

I think his lack of knowledge about general life-ing is a reflection of how he has spent most of his life cooped up inside a room playing an MMO, maybe getting out of chair every so often to go to the bathroom or put a TV dinner in the microwave. Glory really is life. He's dependent on it, which is rather sad when you think about it, since one day Glory will fade away.
