Yep. We are only at the beginning of this crisis. Large parts of the world economy are simply going to grind to a halt over the next few weeks and there is absolutely nothing which can be done to stop it.

Stockmarkets will mirror that decline a few days ahead.

as I said since this shit started its all going to come down to layoffs.

once that snowball starts rolling its hard to stop. 2008-2009 taught me a hard lesson on the impact of 1,000 layoffs and how that initial number downstream into 5-10-20-100x that number in some industries.

like 3 auto companies shutting down production for 2 weeks could cause over a million people to be furloughed for the same period outside in addition to the auto companies
    Buh Byeeeeeeeeeeee !!

Scary thought the past bailouts got us Trump, what will be the new Trump after Biden is done with his bailouts?

So we're seeing the WH in full retreat mode at this point, barring Pence...hey, wasn't Pence in charge? Why didn't he announce the eh fuck it, we all know the answer.

Anyhow, Kellyanne Conway was taken to task by a tag-team of PBS and CBS, over accusations the WH staff were calling this the "kung flu".

“But you can’t just make an accusation and not tell us who it is," Conway added, turning again to Jiang. "Who is it?”

I think you understand how these conversations go," the CBS News journalist replied. "I am also a journalist.”
Bolded for burn #1. Bolded and blue for burn #2.

Trump, I'll remind everyone, uses the term "Chinese virus" on twitter -- what he's said is his official line of communication. To suggest the WH under Trump is somehow a bastion against racism is almost as laughable as Trump's DOW Jones numbers.

So, real talk. Do any of you pro-Trump folks that lurk around here think he’s doing a good job with this?

Like, out of 10, what do you give him for his Presidency to date?

What do you give him for his performance, or lack there of, for just the past 4-6 weeks (Coronavirus)?

Posted in its entirety without interruption:

Senate passes House coronavirus relief package with no changes

The Senate passed the House coronavirus relief bill 90-8 without changes Wednesday, freeing up Congress to focus more energy on passing subsequent legislation that will likely amount to one of the largest emergency spending packages in modern history.

The deal, negotiated between Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, includes free coronavirus testing — even for the uninsured; two weeks of paid sick and family leave; increased federal funds for Medicaid and food security programs, like food stamps; and increased unemployment insurance benefits.

The bill is considered "phase two" of Congress' coronavirus legislative efforts, and negotiations over a "phase three" deal are already underway.
Given it's an emergency funding measure, it's still unclear how much it will cost, and the Congressional Budget Office has not yet scored it.

Many senators protested the bill, arguing that it doesn't do enough for small businesses and industries hit hardest by the virus.
Okay I lied, one interruption. Voting against it, because it doesn't do enough for XXX, is fixable by the next bill. Or the thing Trump proposed to give bailouts to large companies, and loans to small ones. Hold on.

    (checks news)

Hmm. That didn't make sense, but reading it again...yep, that's what was proposed.

McConnell bluntly told those senators Tuesday that they should "gag and vote for it anyway" — and to address their grievances in the next package, which the Senate is in the process of drafting.

The “no” votes included Sens. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), James Lankford (R-Okla.), Mike Lee (R-Utah), Rand Paul (R-Ky.), Ben Sasse (R-Neb.), Tim Scott (R-S.C.) and Ron Johnson (R-Wisc.).

McConnell said the Senate will stay in session until "phase three" is passed.

Senate Republicans are driving the process, and they are working with closely with Treasury and the White House to reach a deal as soon as possible.

Talks are still fluid, but the White House is pushing for an additional $1 trillion to be dedicated to combatting the economic effects of the virus.

A Treasury fact sheet proposes sending checks to many Americans and devoting $300 billion to helping small businesses.

The fact sheet also calls for the creation of a $50 billion “airline industry secured lending facility” that would allow it to make direct loans to “U.S. passenger and cargo air carriers.”

The House, which is currently in recess, does not plan to return to Capitol Hill until after the Senate passes a third bill.
Bolded for logistics. McConnell knows damn well that voting against a proposed, popular relief bill is toxic. It passed the House 363-40 or something similarly one-sided. Blocking it with the rationale "That's not enough" would be self-destructive.

I don't think current Trump supporters are capable of giving honest answers anymore. No matter how big the fuck up, they will regurgitate a talking point about how it's not a big deal or just outright pretend it never happened.

I'm not sure there exists anything bad enough that Trump could do or say that would make them stop supporting him. The only bright side is those people aren't anywhere near a majority of voters. Trump got a lot of votes from people that were simply tired of status quo politicians, hated Hillary, etc... he's absolutely lost most of those voters by now.

Even though I don't think Biden was the best candidate by a long shot, I fully expect him to at least double the margin of victory Hillary had in 2016. That's what I figured before the current pandemic, so given how horribly Trump has done with it the margin may become absurd like 10+ million.

Everyone of those states should be refused funding until those people decide they want to "approve" it.

    Melania having an abortion.

On topic: yet another lawsuit. The EPA is accused of fast-tracking chemicals to approval without full approval process, such as public input.

The lawsuit based on the report hinges on the Toxic Substances Control Act, or TSCA, which require the EPA to announce new applications for chemicals ranging from pesticides to new forms of non-stick chemicals.

But the groups found that in one out of every six applications, the EPA did not publish the notice until after the chemical was already approved, preventing the public from weighing in with concerns.

The number being thrown around for "who gets the $1,000 checks" seems to be $75,000 individual, $150,000 couples. People above that get less -- if this happens at all, that is.

Apparently, the 2008 W checks had similar rules.

Seems unfair to people who live in more expensive areas. I get the appeal of a flat check, it’s just a whole helluva lot less work, but $1000 in Arkansas goes a lot further than $1000 in the suburbs of Boston.

They're probably also more likely to be paid more, if the cost of living is higher.

I mean, he's not completely wrong. We basically need to be on a wartime footing to beat this. The government ordering manufacturing to produce needed equipment to combat the pandemic, rationing goods to prevent hoarding, etc.

At this point I'm wondering if the stress of this crisis he created will cause him to snap and he gets recorded walking around butt naked in the Rose Garden.

Absolutely would not matter. Pro-life groups don't actually care very much about Abortions, they care about telling women what to do.

Remember Rep. Tim Murphy R-Shitbag? Here are some of the text messages that got published during his divorce hearings.

Murphy's Mistress: "you have zero issue posting your pro-life stance all over the place when you had no issue asking me to abort our unborn child just last week when we thought that was one of the options"
Murphy: "I get what you say about my March for life messages. I've never written them. Staff does them. I read them and winced."

If Melania got an abortion, they would either blame her for it, and absolve Trump of all blame, or dismiss it because she is hot and obedient.

About the only thing that would actually shake their faith in him is if Trump came out as Gay or Trans. That would probably do it.
