They are actually quite well equipt compared to other militias globally. Look at the average ISIS/Taiban/Jihadi fighters kit and what they have all been able to do. The gear they have is meant to intimidate and at worst face off against cops with worse gear.

That threads a bit of a dud because its comparing professional military forces to militias. Its thier lack of training and mindset that makes them a joke, a guy with bad gear and good training is still a deadly force.

I think that's the whole point is to mock these guys because they all believe they're a "well organized militia" that's going to squash some kind of tyranny. As you've noted their gear is made to stand off against police officers in poor gear -- if these dimwits had to face any real challenge they'd be dead before they could lift their guns.

Except that this isn't a bunch of folks making do with what they can, which is what those militia forces did. They're clearly not "well regulated" per the Second Amendment, and the gear they voluntarily chose to ignore (stuff that doesn't look cool like helmets) speaks to the fact that they don't have the training necessary to be a deadly force. Sure, they start shooting into a crowd and do damage, but any idiot with a gun can do that. And these happen to look like...well...idiots with guns.

Centuries of not-so latent systemic racism packed with having no existential reason to update our core values since the Civil War, combined with a long standing, hard dying, strain stain of proud anti-intellectualism. Also all the voter suppression, can't forget that. Just, so much goddamned voter suppression.

Or was that a rhetorical question?

Thats true but there is a serious subculture, especially within the white supremacist movement that are currently training for much more serious actions. We saw The Base get pretty close. The mainstreaming of civil war 2 : electric boogaloo has been growing conditions for recruitment and fundraising as well as online radicalisation which so far has been leading to local murders (the worst i can think of off the top of my head recently is still probably Dylan roof, which spawned the bowlpatrol).

This movement has been growing since The Order really kicked things off. Theres a massive feedin with Qanon people now (because at its heart Q is a anti-semetic conspiracy lifted from the protocols of elder zion).

Anyway go listen to bundyville! its a good introduction to alot of the militia stuff.

Racist fucktards larping isn't going to amount to much. That's the thing about most of these radicals, they disappear when someone points a gun at them.

We've had violent militias in this country since long before I was born.

Yes, they have been responsible for a fair number of attacks, and there will surely be more. That doesn't mean I expect anything close to an all-out rebellion.

The real problem is when these racist dipshits vote, and elect white supremacists into political office.

That's where they are dangerous, because they elect shit stains like Trump.

    https://www.salon.com/2020/05/04/tru...-records-show/

The Trump campaign has not returned an illegal donation it received from a foreign national in 2019, records from the Federal Election Commission (FEC) show. It is the campaign's only known illegal foreign contribution.

Rabia Kazan, a Turkish writer and author living in the U.S. on a student visa, made a $2,800 campaign donation in exchange for access to a March 2019 event at Mar-a-Lago featuring the president. The contribution was first reported this February in BuzzFeed News.

But FEC records show that the campaign has not yet disgorged that money, as required by law.

"This is actually one of the rare areas where election law is quite clear," Ciara Torres-Spelliscy, professor of election law at Stetson University, told BuzzFeed when asked about Kazan's contribution.
Trump, who by now knows you can't get foreign support for his campaigns, has still not returned a foreign donation made to his campaign in February.

There's no, "Oh, but we didn't know we weren't able to meet with foreign nationals promising support from their government!" excuse this time, it's a black and white law.

Breaking all those Obama records baby!!!

Who said recessions were easy huh?

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/mark...cid=spartandhp

Massive stimulus to support the U.S. economy through the coronavirus crisis will cause the Treasury to borrow a record $3 trillion this quarter.

The department on Monday announced the total, which is actually $2.999 trillion.

On top of that borrowing, Treasury also said it anticipates another $677 billion in the third quarter.
    Buh Byeeeeeeeeeeee !!

Following reporting, Democrats in the House are urging Trump to authorize FEMA to pay people back for funeral expenses as they historically have.

This is a fund that is used often when there are disasters, so it's not a new thing, nor is there little demand for it as over 30 US states and territories have requested them.

Currently, FEMA is providing crisis counseling, while is nice but doesn't exactly pay for a funeral. Oh well, we've always got GoFundMe. The real American safety net.

Thankfully, Mississippi's governor isn't a complete idiot. After loosening restrictions last week and seeing a surge in new cases and deaths in the state, he's reversing course and not continuing to open the state.

Now, we can all dunk on Reeves for being dumb and reopening too early, but he deserves a spot of praise for recognizing when he's fucked up.

It's sad that the bar is that low, but here we are.

If there is a single thing that sums the US up perfectly, it's the fact that they've unironically come up with privatised socialism. And you have people decrying the curse of socialism with virtually the same breath that they ask people to contribute to their needs.

Funny and sad, at the same time.

"Coronavirus is a hoax! This is all socialism!"

"We've lost a loved one to the virus and are currently in difficult times. We could use your prayers, and please considering donating to our GoFundMe as we now need to cover funeral expenses and more."

The depressing thing is that we've literally seen this story play out more than once in just the past 4 months alone.

The fact so many people in the US rely on something like GoFundMe just to pay for medical expenses baffles me. If anything should show people how messed up US healthcare is....
The excuse people give for supporting GoFundMe over a NHS is that you're not forcefully taking someone's money to help someone else. People are giving because they want to -- not because some evil government entity is forcing you to pay for someone else's health care.

I'd like to believe this is an over-exaggeration but unfortunately this is almost verbatim what you'll hear from those against a single payer system.
