Unrelated: if anyone has anything important to say to the statue of Robert E. Lee in Richmond, Virginia, you're going to have to hurry. The current plan is to move it to storage while they find a new place for it, which what a coincidence, could take years. Apparently it'll be pretty easy to find the statue, as it'll have enormous amounts of graffiti all over it.

Not important, but I saw it and other statues 2 years ago visiting relatives in the Richmond area. An aunt who is a local explained the facing of the statue, meaning the facing is how they died. It was informative and a nice walk through the area.

Based on my personal experiences during my childhood, living a few years below the Mason Dixon line...Fuck them.

Even better, I grew up in VA, in school they try to portray Lee as a hero because he lead the south not as a slave owner but as a man who loved his state and couldn't turn his back on the south and VA even though he didn't agree with slavery.

47 year old white guy here, I've been saying for 3 years that I would vote for the reanimated corpse of Hitler himself before I would vote for Trump or any Republican. I've always considered myself mostly socialist. I voted for Bernie in his primaries, but I had enough sense to vote for Hillary in 2016 instead of a third party.

Being white is almost like a crime to some of the most special people here, it is completely tolerated by mods, I wonder what happens if I say some of the same stuff or even something remotely in that nature about the blacks? It would be anathema, I'd probably get molotov cocktails thrown at my house.

All lives matter simply means we shouldn't treat some groups as having a free pass on violence against other group, no matter the color of their skin. In other words, you don't get to loot shops just because of some crime against a person of your color.

Ah yes All Lives Matter, what a slogan, for somebody who pushes such a powerful slogan then I must ask you a question. You must have been outraged over thousands of families locked away in cages on the Mexican borders for weeks for the crime of trying to seek asylum in this country. For the children that were torn from their families, many of them will never be returned because of the Trump administrations failure to keep records. So your blood must have been boiling because your mantra is All Lives Matter or is it as I suspect and it is not all lives that matter but white lives that matter.

This is a really tired line of dialogue. I have never once been discriminated against for being a White Male. I do not know anyone who has. Nobody is treating white like being a crime, and I have never feared for my life when a policeman pulled me over. In fact, I have never had a policeman be anything other then unfailingly nice to me.

Nobody is getting a free pass on violence. It is entirely a strawman you are creating. Nobody is against arresting looters, or violent shitheads that hurt their fellow Americans, and it doesn't matter what race or political background that violent shithead has.

However, as a society we are responsible for keeping our own law enforcement accountable. We can't deal with lawlessness if those responsible for enforcing it are perpetrating it themselves. Over the last few weeks, we have seen some admirable, courageous, honest policing. We have seen policemen upholding their duty to serve and protect the population as the express themselves, and I honor them for doing so. Unfortunately we have also seen the opposite, and that is what we have to focus on right now, because that is the deviation from the expected norm.

It is not OK to abuse peaceful protestors, it is not ok to gas, beat, shoot, and run over American citizens for expressing themselves. And we have seen all those things. All lives do matter, but there is a persistent pattern of black men losing their lives for appalling reasons, and therefore we have to focus on that. A society that cannot protect all its members is not a society, it is multiple societies that share some geography.

Because I don't believe in "White America" and "Black America". I know what those concepts are, I know they exist, but I have no loyalty or interest in them. If we want to move past that, I see an American that was brutally murdered by a policeman. I am an American as much as George Floyd was, an attack on him is an attack on me, and on the values I believe in. It has to end, and people have to be accountable for that.

I hate responding to you. I mostly agree with what you say, and my comments always feel a bit like quibbling. Barr, by virtue of being a known quantity, is still incredibly useful to trump. Unless rosenstein is the replacement, the next AG will likely review barr's handling of, essentially, everything, and it's much more likely an unknown quantity has a spine than it is for a known sycophant.
