Folly and fakery have always been with us... but it has never before been as dangerous as it is now, never in history have we been able to afford it less. - Isaac Asimov
Every damn thing you do in this life, you pay for. - Edith Piaf
The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command. - Orwell
No amount of belief makes something a fact. - James Randi
Narendra Modi is a monster masquerading as a center-right economist.
Most of my family is still in India, and they're Christian, and can't stand it. But they constantly can't say shit about it. Currently, the sentiment is hugely anti-Islam, but it reminds me of the saying, "When they came for the Jews, I said nothing.......when they came for me, there was no one left to say anything." He'll turn on Indian Christians some time in the future, if he ever manages to get his way on Indian Muslims.
His logic is so faulty - most of Indian animus towards Muslims are from when they invaded and created the Mughal Empire. Which ignores that Muslim leaders let Indians practice whatever religion they want, left Indian rajs relatively autonomous, and created the greatest scientific and cultural period in Indian history. But he says we have to hate Indian Muslims because they invaded, hundreds of years ago, and puts that blame at the feet of Indian Muslims. Meanwhile, I'm from Goa, where the Portuguese forcefully converted my ancestors to Catholicism, exploited and raped its people, only to cower and slink away when a different European country who had a stronger Navy kicked them out and started the British rule in India. By his logic, shouldn't I hate Portugal? Shouldn't Indians all hate the British? Where does it end?
Of course, his logic isn't meant to be logical. It's meant to be Islamaphobic, and stoke fear and division, so he can continue to hold on to power.
It really does seem to be "Ignore what we've done -- Biden will be worse. He'll take your job--"
"We lost it, coronavirus."
"I mean, there'll be rioting and burning in the streets, and --"
"We already have that. Part of it happened because Trump took a photo op and gassed people in the way."
"I mean, he'll be weak against China and --"
"You mean Phase One?"
"I mean, he's inappropriate with women, and--"
"I wish I had $130,000 for each time I heard that."
"I mean, there would be disease and you'd have no health care and --"
"Trump is trying to take away ACA protections during the outbreak he didn't stop."
"I mean, hamburgers!"
"...what?"
"You won't be able to eat hamburgers."
"...why?"
On topic: the court case is heating up. NYState made the case in court that Trump was trying to delay the subpoena, by filing for an appeal that had zero chance of success (the appeal had already lost in SCOTUS, they said) and by delaying the subpoena Trump could potentially get re-elected and therefore be immune to the prosecution.
NYState also brought up that the "irreprable harm" was bogus, but not just because grand jury testimony is sealed. The other reason? Every candidate since Nixon has released their taxes. There is no irreprable harm simply by releasing your taxes. The harm is releasing your taxes, which shows you're a criminal or a liar.
Technically, NYState could just enforce the subpoeana right now. They've agreed to wait until the appeals court rules. However, no such promise has been made about SCOTUS -- and I am no legal expert, but if I knew the subpoena was legal until SCOTUS ruled, and that Trump had personally put two members on SCOTUS, I would be assembling SWAT teams the very second the appeals court rules unfavorably. More importantly, since their targets include non-Trump businesses like Deutsche Bank, I would expect those targets to comply quickly, or end up being a target of opportunity for a vengeful-ass NYState. I don't believe Deutsche Bank is willing to destroy Trump's records that are subpoena'd to help Trump. Trump isn't paying them.
Also, Eric Trump.
Just so we are clear here.
David Dorn was not a trump supporter and David Dorn's daughters opposed his wife using his death for political points for fucking trump a person he didn't support.
Absolutely disgusting.
Agreed. My Dad lives in Goa. Mum lives in Mumbai. Sister lives in Calcutta. And it's the same in every corner of the country. This revisionism where apparently 'Hindus' are the only religion that did anything to build the country.
And it's sad, because it's not the religion that is enforcing this. It's the Prime Minister and the ratfuckery the party is indulging in.
The weird irony is that the BJP is currently trying to smear the Youth Leader of the Shiv Sena in Mumbai, because the Shiv Sena is too soft on religious conflict. The same Shiv Sena that used to previously be Hindu Nationalist upto the rafters. Such a weird world.

They're doing so with every damn speech. It's a trifecta of - 'look we like black people, aren't they cute?', 'look at these unfortunate white people that got shafted by Obama' and 'look at the streets where these radical white lefties and black rioteers that are trying to bumfuck the country!'
They'll probably roll out some 'Crooked media' and 'Yuge economy' for dessert.

Those states include California, New York --

Texas and Florida.
Their entire convention today is just a Trump Convention. They're even doing a Tony Stark style video on Donald Trump whilst omitting his five bankruptcies and multiple lawsuits quoting fraud, criminality and other misdemeanours.

Lol, they're talking about lowering the cost of insulin and medical aid, whilst not mentioning that they're ruining the USPS thus preventing said insulin from being delivered.
They're even starting to revise Gandhi's impact on Indian Independence, because they can't stand that Gandhi wasn't a Hindu Nationalist and believed in religious pluralism despite being Hindu (in fact, he was killed by a Hindu Nationalist who thought he was too soft on non-Hindus), because they hate that whole Gandhi/Nehru/Indira Gandhi part of independent Indian history.
Nevermind that those leaders (who were democratic socialists, btw) led India to being the most successful Asian emigrants in the world, and brought India out of 3rd world status in about 50 years, by offering anyone who was capable debt-free education. I should know, my dad was one of them, and it allowed him to have a foot up in America when we came here, that African American and poor Hispanic immigrants never had.
Pfft. I wouldn't worry about it. Nationwide cases are currently going do-
…
46,286 new cases, nearly 1k more than last Thursday.
Welp.
California: 5,280 new cases; 141 deaths
Texas: 4,458 new cases; 221 deaths
Fuck Florida.
Georgia: 2,484 new cases; 82 deaths
North Carolina: 2,015 new cases; 26 deaths
Tennessee: 1,826 new cases; 25 deaths
Alabama: 1,769 new cases; 31 deaths
Illinois: 1,707 new cases; 23 deaths
Missouri: 1,614 new cases; 21 deaths
Iowa: 1,566 new cases (new record); 13 deaths
Ohio: 1,226 new cases; 30 deaths
Minnesota: 1,154 new cases (new record); 13 deaths
Indiana: 1,145 new cases; 7 deaths
Virginia: 1,121 new cases; 12 deaths
Starting to see some new faces on the list as those slow crawls I've been mentioning start breaking the 1k barrier. Iowa did so in spectacular fashion, just about doubling their average from the past week. Might be a one-day fluke; might be the start of something awful. No way of telling right now and there's no notice I've seen saying it's a one-day correction or anything like that. All we can know for sure is that recovery is kind of taking a hit--right as the GOP are bragging about Trump's non-existent leadership and COVID-19 relief efforts.
1,143 deaths, more than last Thursday by a bit, putting the total at 184,796. Texas, California and fucking Florida continue to deal with the aftershocks of their outbreaks and that's responsible for a significant bulk of the total, but those other states in the list are seeing their own consequences from weeks past and the new arrivals on the list will be adding to it soon. It's beginning to look like we won't be sub-1k for very long when--and if--we reach that.
Stay safe, folks.
Not to mention that they've been trying to claim that India was never meant to be secular because only Indira Gandhi added it into the constitution in 1973. They conveniently skipped the fact that the only reason Nehru, Ambedkar et al did not include it is because they didn't want to enforce secularism and thus restrict religious freedom. In essence, they didn't want people to interpret secularism = atheism. Because they knew the world wasn't ready for enlightened secularism. And it still isn't. And sometimes I fear that it really never will be. Scary world for my future children.
I have family as does my wife who are like that regarding Modi. They'll just believe anything that suits their narrative.

She keeps talking about Trump like he's some loveable yet harsh parent from a John Hughes film. I wonder if Hitler had this at the Nuremberg Rally. 'He's just got a love of gas! He likes how squeaky it makes their voices when they suffocate!' Bunch of fucking sycophants.
