The UN is already turning on her, and she does look like she's turning into a petty dictator. It wouldn't be the first time that outside governments supported a "freedom fighter" only to have that person turn into a murderous asshole. She's a terrible human being, as were the leaders before her against whom she was fighting.

The UN didn't know how fast they had to jump on this because of the cultural and religious background of these people.

You hardly ever hear the UN about other, similar cases.

It's funny how people actually think she's calling the shots.

It would appear so. But then again, aren't we these days supposed to be unshaken by the notion of sending refugees back to horrible places?

Do you know the "genocide" is in fact a lie? The Rohingas arein fact muslims who refuse to assimilate and plotting terrorists attacks since dozens and dozens of years. Rohingas are not the poor victims every media is describing: they are the true vilains in this story.

And yet, they are being rounded up, killed, and imprisoned...

Yup she is basically a front the generals control the military so there isn't much she could do even if she opposes it. Also the vast majority of Burmese people don't like the Rohingas and are fine with the killings sadly. The general in charge of these atrocities is gaining popularity, Burma is not a country ready for democracy the Chinese approach is best here.

The almost only power she has is the one the military let her have.

Indeed, as far as I am aware the army are in charge and have been for a long time.

They seem to have ‘allowed’ her Presidency in order to improve foreign relations and when she is too toxic internationally will probably be dumped, then Burma will get another President that the international community will declare is going to clean up Burma.

    Then repeat.

Hardly, the civilian government can't do anything to reduce the power the military holds and the military are calling the shots. It's outgunned and and they have no authority to control the military.

If she acts against the military then she would lose her position quickly, what little progress has been made towards becoming a democracy and not a military dictatorship will be for nothing. It could take decades before making it to this stage again in democratizing the country if she does that as the military would assume control in an instant. The people support this too, muslims are not liked. So, not only would she get problems with the military but she'd also lose the people.

So, what's your suggestion that would not result in Myanmar returning to a fully fledged military dictatorship again?

Because all 3 year olds and 85 year old grannies are terrorists? Do you realize that you are talking about a huge group of people as if it was made up by identical clones? Also, do you realize that this is the very definition of racism.

I agree, the military is still calling the shots. She's just now a willing actor in the shenanigans.

As you pointed out, it's already basically a full-fledged military dictatorship, so very little will actually change. She's certainly not the only one who needs to go in Myanmar/Burma.

Just because Muslims are not liked, is not a justification for genocide and ethnic cleansing.

The Rohingya have been committing terrorist acts, but the genocide isn’t a lie. The Burmese response has been disproportionate.

Dismissing propaganda from one side doesn’t mean you should accept propaganda from the other side.

Quite right. Also their latest constitution bans her from power. Inserted by guess who? That's right, their military.

How about we let the people in the region take care of it though?
