Excerpt from: https://www.politico.eu/article/euro...efugee-crisis/It’s time to face the truth. We cannot and will never be able to stop migration.
It is foolish to think that migration will disappear if one adopts harsh language. It is naïve to think that our societies will remain homogenous and migration-free if one erects fences. It is unwise to think that migration will remain on the other side of the Mediterranean, if one only shows solidarity in financial terms.
At the end of the day, we all need to be ready to accept migration, mobility and diversity as the new norm and tailor our policies accordingly. The only way to make our asylum and migration policies future-proof, is to collectively change our way of thinking first.
I could not agree more with this. I have been fed up with all the negativity toward migrants who are coming to Europe. Europe is a multi-racial, multi-ethnic place where everybody should be welcomed, regardless of their creed and origin. We need to make sure our youth understand that it is important to adopt a tolerant view of this matter, as they will be those who will eventually welcome with open hands the "new Europeans" who will keep coming to Europe. We need to all accept the idea that Europe has never been only for white people but everybody else too. Only with open arms and a tolerant heart can we make sure that the newcomers settle effectively and without much trouble. After all, their future IS the European future. They are the future and we must welcome this as great news.
