I logged in since i had a hankering for a third person shooter and honestly what others even came out in the last few years and the RE event dragged me in but boy, the project was to emote at 3 other players.

It took me 2 hours of checking safehouses to find another player :/

That's the better choice now that you mention it. Shoulda thought of that.

Since I'm only learning so I'm forced to approach the game casually. I wonder if sharpshooter spec and a skill build would work for solo turret/drone player? I suppose all specs are viable, but I love chilling at the back with a sniper too, and signature weapon looks attractive. So I'm not sure where to start and what spec to allocate my resources to.

    Thank you for any insights.

Eh, memento is overall just strong and basically covers any need. Not all build need/want it (example, a pure drone/turret tech can do better without it) but especially in solo it's really good. Also all my builds are somewhat hybrid ones and getting that additional damage on everything/more core stats is always useful.

Side note: damn if it's hard to get PfE mods and craft improvised gear lol.

Drone/Turret is hands down the safest and easiest build to use especially in solo. Mostly because enemies will target your skills and they'll peel off a lot of pressure. You totally want to go in the Summit and do 5 challenges to unlock the Capacitor, because it's literally 60% skill damage just because you shoot at people. You can go more hybrid with Memento or unlock Waveform through season levels for more "pure tech" playstyle.

Sniper you totally want a Nemesis or Mantis, or White Death. It'll revolve all around the Headhunter chest talent which will basically make you a oneshot machine. Personally, i'm bad at aiming so i cannot enjoy it that much, but i always wanted to play it more and get better at it.

What a great post. Thanks so much for your help. Good luck if you decide to go deep aiming ;D

One of the high points of the game right now is thst pretty much any playstyle you can think of has a build that supports it.

I HIGHLY recommend experimenting with different guns and skills to find out what parts of it you like, then return to here or the official forums to ask for more pointed build advice.

Just be aware that if you go searching on the web for builds or info, to check the date carefully. There's a lot of old info that was never updated, and is very wrong.

The crashing is killing me, and it continues to be totally random. Got a few solid hours in the other night, thought they'd fixed it and was happy I could just dump my Sunday into it...crashed minutes after loading it up and that repeated for a while.

Hopefully I don't lose too much time on the apparel event, if they don't clean this shit up soon they'd better extend that shit.

Verifying the install fixed the crashes for me. Give it a shot.

Giving it a try now, didn't realize that feature was in uplay. Hopefully it works, thanks dude.

That's good to know, and thank you! Tinkering in this game is freaking amazing. My current setup is very simple and doesn't have any depth in it. I simply run sharpshooter for stability on rifle, and trying to max out anything skill related on gear. I enjoy rifles since I'm really not a fan of spray weapons, it might be just an illusion but with rifle I feel that I have a better target acquisition and quicker eliminations.

The exotic mog is actually very well done, the leather is super high quality and the mask is savage. I actually exchanged my credit for keys since I'm too late to the show. My crashing stopped after I reinstalled Nvidia graphics, don't know if it's related to that installation, but I'm happy that it stopped.

Just be aware that some playstyles require builds that necessitate a LOT more farming than others.

The Classic M1A rifle build is still technically the META, although speedrunners have been using groups of people all equipped with the new exotic shotgun "Scorpio".

And as to specialization: There's an argument to be made for Gunner over Sharpshooter, depending on what you're good at. If you can regularly land headshots, then by all means, go with Sharpshooter!

But looking at Gunner if you're more of a "center of mass" player: You'll get weapon handling when standing still for longer than a second, and increased rate of fire and armor on kills. Also, with a Classic M1A fire rate, you'll literally never run out of ammo. Ever.

Which, btw, if you're not super familiar with all the details of attributes: For every 1% weapon handling you have, you get 1% Accuracy, Stability, Reload Speed, and Weapon Swap. So 10% weapon handling would be:

    10% Accuracy
    10% Stability
    10% Reload Speed
    10% Weapon Swap speed

Wait...is it still the freakin meta? I haven't played with one since they nerfed it a while back...should I be considering bringing an old one with boomerang out of retirement? I can only imagine how hilarious it'll be with Braced on my chest, or swap over to HH or something more damage oriented.

So for the first time ever i had an Exotic weapon drop, its some sci-fi looking assault rifle with a video screen and holographic honeycomb stuff around it that i got from one of the manhunt sub bosses before Faye. Are these a fixed thing from those encounters or just random coincidence?

Some are "quests" that require you to collect parts from specific activities, others are just random drops. I don't think any non-raid bosses drop "specific" exotics, but I do think they have a higher drop rate for whatever open loot pool exotics exist.

What kind of weapon/what name? I'm not even sure what that would be >.>

Sounds like you got the Chameleon. https://thedivision.fandom.com/wiki/Chameleon. Currently, no exotics are tied to manhunts, so you were just lucky.

Coyote in Jefferson Trade Center drops Coyote's Mask. I think that's the only exception.

It's the chameleon, was garbage when I played the game. Don't have any clue about current weapon balance tho.

It's still an extremely strong build and playstyle. The reason I said "technically" is because the gap between it and other powerful builds is much smaller.

Memento + Capacitor makes any solo skill build extra strong. Memento alone makes any build involving a shield very durable.

Hunter's Fury put close-range builds back in competition, especially with Scorpio.

Turret/Drone is back in the running too.

And even Protection from Elite builds overtook the top spot for a week until it was shadow-nerfed to bring it back into line.

But the oldschool Focused+Vigilance combo with a crusader shield is just as good as ever. And rewards higher skill play with a swap to glass cannon or headhunter.

It got a buff awhile back, and many people argue it's a top tier weapon. But I personally never use the damn thing.
