To be "brand new" it'd have to actually be something new, something that isn't a rehash of something that already exists or existed in the past. Glyphs, back in the day, were "brand new", for example.

If Blizzard opened a new server with the Gates of Ahn'Qiraj still closed, opening said gates wouldn't be "brand new".

The first person with Noggenfogger. The first to combine the two sword in Zul'Farak into Zul'Thraze.
Both are repeats of actions that were already done in the past, in the exact same way, in the exact same places.

    It's brand new all right.
    It's really not.

It's not about claims... it's about experience! Of course no one cares if you wer ethe first blueberry equipd lock... but it's the first one YOU saw... perhaps the first anyone sees on your server...

That is an experience... not a claim. Like being the first to ride Ribendare's mount... it'll be rare enough that peopel ill ooooh and ahhhh. Experience man...

Classic still requires a sub to current wow to be played so the blizzard numbers won't realistically show who is playing what but i think Blizz might actually accidentally schoot current wow in the foot by dividing the playerbase.

I'm not waiting for wow to die in any form nor do i think it will truly die anytime soon, but with all mmo's released since launch i believe that Wow classic has the biggest chance to do what has been repeated on these forums each time a compareable mmo releases.

Will blizzard be able to convince us to play the xpac after bfa instead of classic ? for now i don't think so.

Update: Given the answers, classic wow might be the thing current retail needs to fill in the content gaps between patches and expansions.
Both of them being on the same sub might even be a blessing instead of a curse.

Thanks for the answers and sorry if i triggered anyone with my now only 3 posts
Not sure why you say that we can only play one game at a time. Classic and Live will have the same subscription, meaning you get access to both games without having to pay extra. You can be active on both at the same time. Sure, hardcore players will spend more time in one or the other, but that doesn't prevent them from playing both.

LOL... ok. You obviously never played a fresh private server. I have.. and it's just as exciting as the other several I participated in. It's completely new.

But hey... skip Classic.. .I'm OK with that. Just know unless you were at Vanilla's launch with the other 300,000 players... you will never get the chance to experience it again after Classic launches.

Once you cleared Nax40 you are done with Vanilla.

I don't see the difference between the first and the last :/

I'm also confused what you're getting at, Alot of that stuff was cool because it looked cool, but that was 2005, I was like wow when half life came out but if the release half life again im not gonna have the same experience I had when I first saw those head crabs and neither would any one who never played it. The context is different, at that time is was the height of gaming now stuff like riven dares mount are just a rare drop purple turd with legs :/

It was and is just a game crappy old game from the 00s, wasn't even that good of an MMO tbh everquest did most things better, wow was just a bit like habbo hotel more a socialising thing people seemed to play because there mates played, it was Facebook befor we had Facebook.

I'm not sure how a pixilated purple horse exactly matches up with stuff in fortnight and apex.

I think classic needs a battle royal mode, that might make it popular >.<

Im honestly more excited for the lvling than anything elae

I have little to no interest in Classic so not everyone will be playing it. Give me the next expansion please. Classic to me is a joke. I'm 70 years old and no kid either. I like the way the game is now.

"Exciting" =/= "brand new". Being excited by something does not mean said something is "brand new". You can be excited for something that already exists, or existed in the past.

    It's completely new.
It's not. Especially for you, since you admitted to having already played it in private servers.

You seem to have a very skewed definition for the words "new" and "completely"...

Isn't Fortnite dead and Apex DOA?

But in either case... it's perfectly understandable that you don't see value or difference in playing Classic and earning things that are once again rare. Zulian Tiger anyone? There is something about a fresh start that is very appealing to some people.

Classic just isn't for you and you will have BfA or Legion 3.0, whatever the latest version of the same thing is offered next expansion. There is a decided market for Classic, or Blizzard would not be releasing it. How many will play and stay?

    That remains to be seen.

Each time a server starts over... it's all brand new on THAT server. That is a world of it's own. You won;t get the same drops... you may get Rivendare on the first attempt in one Azeroth, but never see it drop ever again on any world.

When you log in fo rthe first time on a server and run to the AH? Nothing is there. And een if there were you are flat busted broke and couldn't afford it anyway.

It is brand new... you may disagree.. and again that's fine... it may very well be that Classic will not be completely new to you. It will be for others.

But if you weren;t there for launch... the 300,000 that were there... I cannot see how launch wouldn't be something completely new. in fact you have NEVER seen a fresh server.. always a compromised economy, always rich people that can buy their professions in the first day or 2. You have never been in a position where you have not been able to get materials because noone is high enough level to actually GET them yet. (Beyond the first 10 hours of an expansion)

We are talking MONTHS before the game has a mature economy.

All I all I am talking about the birth of an MMORPG world. Sure if you have played Pandaland or Legion... but Classic is unique.. .and this launch? Brand new!

Nah I'll have cyberpunk 2077 to try and get through as well as the new doom and the new rage, then there's the up coming borderlands game, so many gems or potential gems coming up a game from 05 that tbh wasn't actualy that popular, wotlk was popular and tbc in the latter half but vanilla its self wasn't that big.

Ehhhh it's just not an attractive prospect compared to having eso and ff14 for my mmo fix.

Wait there's a monster hunter expansion and a new darkest dungeons game coming 2nd half of the year. Yea I ain't gonna have the time for any mmo haha

Well, what a surprise. You get positive responses when you ask people who already showed an interest in the topic. Confirmation bias at its finest.

Classic fanatics are usually like that. Tons of ppl will play Classic! Because I asked my friends who play on private servers! Like seriously?

Actually.. .most of the people I reached out to didn't or haven't played private servers. They don't like the idea of them being able to (and often did) just shut down.

in fact I think this is a good point to make... that while there are many people who are playing or haven played on private servers... there are likely a lot more penitential players out there who simply didn't want to invest time in potentially volatile private servers. So while people like to think only private server peeps will jump on Classic.. that just isn't the case.

    They won't...

It will cater to a very very select few, and it will decrease steadily in numbers very rapid after the first month or so..

    Fact (because I say so): TBC > Cata > Legion > ShaLa > MoP > DF > BfA > WoD = WotLK

Obv, ppl will try it, especially since they are sub. But to think that a LOT OF PPL will stay on classic. Keep dreaming. I do not deny that ppl will play it from time to time but I do not think a tons of ppl will dedicate a lot of time to reach the end game. Especially if what you get on Classic is not transfered to Retail (like rare mount and such).
