This is a recent poll on capitalism and socialism....https://www.foxbusiness.com/money/mi...apitalist-poll

Millennials are increasingly embracing socialism over capitalism, according to a new poll, which found that at least 70 percent of Americans between the ages of 23 and 38 were somewhat likely to cast a ballot for a socialist.

Conducted by YouGov/Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation, the poll also found that only 50 percent of millennials and 51 percent of Generation Z (ages 16 to 22) have a favorable view of capitalism, a drop from 2018. Comparatively, roughly 33 percent of millennials view communism favorably, while 35 percent said they liked marxism.

Interestingly, the poll — conducted between Sept. 6 and Sept. 13, and released on Monday — found the likelihood of Americans voting for a Democratic socialist has decreased since last year. Just over half of the more than 2,000 Americans surveyed were hesitant about voting for a Democratic socialist, a six-point increase from 2018.

    Why did it drop?

They'll need to repeat the poll for several more years. Preferably using the same sample, or at least sample distribution.

Two points in time do no constitute a data set. Definitely not enough to develop a trend.

I think the odds in 2020 is against the GOP. Democrat's registration in District 25 is +4 now. The district voted for Obama in 2012, Brown in 2014, and Clinton in 2016. Steve Knight was left over legacy GOP. Once the GOP lose that seat, there is no getting it back. That's why Issa is running for Hunter's seat instead of trying to reclaim his old seat. It is just not going to happen.

This poll is meaningless since Fox news' version of "socialism" is Canada.

Actually the poll is from an organization called "Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation". Whose stated goal is "tells the truth about communism because our vision is for a world free from the false hope of communism."

Fighting authoritarianism doesn't make "left wingers" or "liberals" authoritarian. People are sick of what the GOP has done to this country and now they are fighting back.

VCMF is a fascist propaganda outfit. It's a group that counts both the people who died in the 1921 Russian famine (the result of a massive drought) as well as the deaths of Axis soldiers and their collaborators killed during the Soviet counter-offensive into Nazi-occupied Europe - including Nazis killed during the liberation of the death camps - as "victims of communism."

I always try and get soon to be 18 year olds to register for vote by mail since its convenient and they are more likely to vote and actually do it if they don't have to go to a ballot place. Voting by mail is the best.

The dems are only going to grow as a party over the next few decades. The biggest issues for young Gen-Xers and younger is climate change, healthcare, student loan debt, etc... Problems that republicans are doing absolutely nothing to solve. In fact, under Trump they've tried their best to make it all worse. Republicans have no good solutions for these problems.

If you're a younger person and you care about any of those things then you can't support the GOP. The only thing I can see pushing someone to vote republican anyway is having a very extreme position on abortion.

Please enlighten everyone as to the democrat plans for student loans that do not include complete forgiveness....that, like reparations, is never going to happen.

And the chairman of said organization also works for the Heritage Foundation.

Other members of their council include a former general who was involved in Iran-Contra and a "Distinguished Senior Fellow" of the Ethics and Public Policy Center, which is "dedicated to applying the Judeo-Christian moral tradition to critical issues of public policy".

Flowery declarations about purpose aside, that membership does not give me the impression of a significantly credible organization.

That was my point. The organization does not engendered confidence that it could perform a fair and unbiased poll.

That's a fair point. Polls and studies can be off and inaccurate for several reasons. I saw a study from the UK taken a few years ago, which showed that people do become more conservative as they age. Maybe the location also makes a difference. *shrugs.

    And there is this article....https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/b...e-conservative

The first reason is personality. Indeed, a review of 92 scientific studies shows that intellectual curiosity tends to decline in old age and that this decline explains age-related increases in conservatism.

The second is judgment, in particular, information-processing capacity. In most people (and I’m sorry to break the news) the speed of information-processing, a core ingredient of judgment and intelligence, peaks around the mid-20s. To make matters worse, most people become considerably slower after their mid-40s, with a substantial deceleration after their 60s. The good news, however, is that slower does not necessarily mean dumber. In fact, older people are better able to rely on knowledge, experience, and expertise, so they are not as affected by slower information-processing capacity

So then conservatism is only around because people have poor judgment. But then, we already knew that.
