For the last couple expansions, Azeroth's two moons (The White Mother and the Blue Child) have gained more and more importance in the lore, though it was subtle behind bombastic battles and world-rending catastrophies.
During the events of Legion, when Ysera is slain by Tyrande and the elves at the Temple of Elune, a seemingly divine intervention grasps Ysera's dying body and retrieves its soul to cleanse it. These tendrils of blue light emanante from behind the moon, and return behind once the deed is done.
During the events of Battle for Azeroth, and particularly the War of Thorns, Elune has been mentionned a lot, some elves believe she abandoned her children, others think this is a test of faith. And some have turned to the vengeful darkness Elune can provide in the form of the Night Warrior.
The Moon has a side of light we can always see, but it also must have a dark side we never see.
What if the Shadowlands are not only a pocket dimension appearing in a dimensional tear above Icecrown, but also a physical realm on the dark side of the White Mother?
It would explain why Ysera's soul was retrieved by something lurking behind the moon. Remember also that Eonar used to construct life on a very bright temple area of a place called Elunaria. We always assumed that it was another planet, but it could be the titanic name of the nearby moon that Eonar used to oversee the progress of life on Azeroth during the ages of the titans.
And the events that have seemingly "broken" the Shadowlands and the cycle of death, could also be the reason why Elune has not been as active for her children as in the previous ages, if whatever happened in the Shadowlands also affected the White Mother.
What do you think?
